Have you tried re-installing?
Mine had to go through two updates as it downloaded the in-game files.

Re-installing worked, not sure why I didn’t do that before.
You can easily afford Tom Nook and K.K. Slider within the time period by normally playing and saving up the leaf tickets from the level up rewards and goals.
You can only have one of the 2 characters at your campsite or van at a time, it will just display an empty chair/stool for the last placed one if you try to have them both there.
I’m nearing level 40 and the real struggle is getting all the required essence to upgrade the tentspots.
