Sparring isn't as active anymore because
1. Poor enforcement of the rules
2. Next to no consequences for cheating
(Imo) 3. Lack of diversity in spar. The most highly regarded idev sparrers are mostly delayers, who spar defensively. And while this is fine , it's easier to sit back and spar simple and grind out wins with your wifi as a key element of your sparring (nothing wrong with that, not slating delayers , I am one myself) and sadly because of this , a lot of sparrers take it as an example and spar the same. I'm not sure about US evening times , but throughout the day sparring consists of mostly people who spar defensively and don't live in the US. It's not fun to spar people of similar styles over and over and over and over, hence why I often selectively spar the better players of this ilk like Sarah and alexx , because they are the best way to improve and provide a good amount of points if you beat them. It's still gonna be a boring grind with someone who's not as good but still spars in the same way so might as well. I was very active last season , but have decided not to be this season because There's not enough diversity in sparring. When i spar 5 different styles in a row I find it way more enjoyable.
I'm not speaking for the rest of you with #3 that's just one of the reasons I don't spar as much , I'd like to see people pursue different styles and make it interesting to try and figure out a way to win. That's why it's always cool when I see old sparrers come back live Kevin and EP who I haven't sparred much yet. So be unique! Try different things etc etc.
Also the points system is reflective of skill depending on how you read it, but it still isn't as good as the old system in which u Had to beat the best players to stay up there , but the old points system doesn't encourage activity like this one does

I agree that we can't really blame delayers bc it's not their fault, and probably 90% of the players has at least 0.5sec delay. Yes delayers defensive style is annoying but I guess we will just have to get along with it, I mean admins never put a rule 'don't wall' all what matters is winning or losing as long as u don't cheat. I also hate sparring people that copy their style too although they don't delay but as I said we will just have to get along with it and no it's not enjoyable sparring them. I think alex's post provide the most accurate reason that explains why a lot of ppl that spar has quitted.
