Or just have an icon next to their name or in the profile indicating that you've already gifted them. That way it's less data. If you have all of them added on your friends list, then you will see who you haven't/have gifted by seeing who doesn't/does have the icon or whatever.

Idk just seems more simple too use an icon for friends list.
