If it's depression, speaking to someone close to you can help at times. IMO therapists don't work, they just repeat and ask you stuff you already know or are pretty obvious. It gets pretty frustrating.

Why people assume that the support of a good friend can substitute for therapy? Social support is important for everyone, but therapy is very different opposed to a friend or a family member. With therapists you have confidentiality and a professional who can diagnose and treat cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and relational issues.
Therapists are objective. Friends aren't.
