If it's depression, speaking to someone close to you can help at times. IMO therapists don't work, they just repeat and ask you stuff you already know or are pretty obvious. It gets pretty frustrating.

Everyone's experience with therapist's will be different. I for one have been in therapy for years now and it's worked wonders. If he wants to go to one, let him go to one. From personal experience, talking to family is ffing useless.
