The coolest gay people are the ones who don't allow their entire life to revolve around their sexuality in meme-esque "I'm a vegan" fashion. I felt like in the late '90s/early 2000s, there was this certain pretentiousness from the gay community where everyone felt like they had to announce they were gay, and be fabulous, and seek attention at every turn due to their pride in something they have no hand in.

yep. reminds me of 420 BLAZ IT YOLO xDDDDD culture. luckily all the folks i know aren't like that, they smoke but don't dedicate their whole lives to revolve around it.
