That's pretty self-explanatory. It's not necessarily correct to say there's more crime today than there was years ago. The murder rate (per 100,000 people) in 1960 was 5.1, and today, it's 4.5. Murder has actually decreased. The total crime from 1960-2014 increased a fair amount, but so has the population. Obviously some crimes have increased quite a bit, while some have decreased, but overall, the total crime hasn't drastically changed, when compared to the population changes. There's more media, more cellphone footage, more instant news, but not a whole lot has changed overall.
