This will probably be my last post in this thread. None of you have any obligation to read this, but I want to take the time to explain why I strongly support Bernie Sanders.
First off it’s not about me or my wants. I’m an extremely privileged white male who has been spoiled by my parents for years. I’ve had the latest and greatest in technology. I had game systems when they came out. I had the iPod Touch 2nd Gen when that came out which also led me to discover Graal Classic. I have extremely supportive parents who are, and have been financially secure for as long as I have ever lived. There is nothing more I could ask for.
So why do I strongly support Bernie Sanders while opposing people like Donald Trump?
Now in one of my old neighborhoods where I had recently moved from Massachusetts to Maine, there was a city funded house for those in poverty. They were extremely trashy. No one liked them or the people living in them. The mindset was they put themselves in this situation, why should our tax money get them out?
Now my mom always loved camping. She loved buying RVs and remodeling them. Eventually that led us to go on a family road trip. The goal was to travel all of the United States. Now eventually we ended up in Florida where I live now. We purchased a house out here and are renting out a few properties we own in Maine.
Before we purchased our house however, we traveled in an RV. We met a lot of people. It was honestly an amazing experience that molded who I am today. That’s what I want to talk about. What I’ve witnessed first hand.
There are families who have nothing left. They lost their house and had to pack up their car and family and just go. Now these aren’t people receiving government benefits mind you. They aren’t even in the same state their house was in. These are people all over the country with no place to go, so they just drive.
Some of them wound up where we were staying. Now somehow one of these families managed to get a job. Who would want to hire a man who doesn’t even own a house and can barely afford to feed his family? I’ve seen kids complain to their parents that they are hungry. But why should anyone care? Their parents forced them into this situation.
Now his employers knew this was his last option. He had nowhere else to turn to, so they used him. He was working every day of the week for 12 hours a day. You could see it in him that he was dead tired. But he pushed, because he had a family he needed to take care of. I’ve seen his boss scream at him, but what can he do? He needs the money or his family is practically dead.
Eventually there was no more need for him. He had to quit his job. Guess where he is to this day? Begging for money because he needs to feed his family.
Now this is just one story, but I’ve seen countless of people struggle in poverty. I’ve had our camper broken into, and the only thing stolen? Food. I’ve seen guns get pulled in slums. I’ve seen a single dad struggle to keep his 3 kids safe and well fed. It’s a ****ty world out there. But why should we care? We are all financially secure, and are fed and clothes. We have internet access where we can discuss Donald Trump’s impressive wealth to each other.
It brings be to this quote

"Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country"
- John F. Kennedy

That quote is essentially telling you to not be greedy.
Are our citizens not a part of our country? Are we still living in a world where it’s killed or be killed. If you can’t keep up then you die?
Now I understand that some of you don’t care about if anyone else is starving to death.

To put it bluntly, and I know this will trigger so many of you coddled people, but I could not possibly care less if you get poor and starve (which will probably never happen) but I'm voting for myself. I don't think anything else should be expected of an individual. I shouldn't be seeking to better everyone else except for myself. That just isn't rational.

Now that’s fine. It’s not illegal to be a heartless asshole who doesn’t care about around 15% of your country potentially starving to death. Compassion isn’t a requirement. But the thing is these people are at the last few moments of their life. It’s nearly impossible to get out of a ****ty situation like that.
The man I mentioned before somehow managed to get a job and kept it for nearly a year. But that wasn’t enough. After working harder than I have ever worked in my life, his family is back to where they were a year ago. No money and no food.
How is it possible that in a country where we are wasting 40% of our food that has been shipped to grocery stores. This isn’t counting food that doesn’t pass inspection standards. This is completely edible food.

It makes me ask, are we not doing anything for them because we simply can’t, or because we don’t want to?

It’s not about increasing government handouts. It’s about making jobs for those who aren’t as lucky as some of us actually possible to sustain a family. It’s not fair to those born into poverty. You could argue that adoption is another option, but that’s a completely different issue that I’ve gotten my foot into before. I’ve done foster care before. It’s a ****ty system that can actually cause attachment disorders to develop. It isn’t uncommon either. And the funny thing is, most who get into foster care are near the poverty line themselves because of the pay that comes with it. It’s not an issue that’s going to fix itself.
So while I’m watching privileged Americans argue how a billionaire who himself has done damage to the country while increasing his gain should be in charge of it, I think that this man doesn’t love America. None of you do. You love the capitalism. You want personal gain. You don’t love the citizens who simply just don’t want to starve to death.
The problem isn’t mexicans or how we need to invest billions into a wall that won’t actually be effective. Hell I could continue to argue how the crime rate of illegal immigrants is significantly less compared to actual residents of the United States.
But in the end all of this is pointless. Even if Bernie Sanders does somehow manage to pull off the unlikely, we would have to hope that the members of the Electoral College get drunk to the point they forget how to spell Trump. Which is unlikely since his name is plastered everywhere. By the way that’s not a joke. The members of the Electoral College often misspell names.
Maybe I’m delusional thinking this is the best way for our country to progress, but money isn’t an infinite resource. It has to come from somewhere. We are essentially condemning the lower class to die. How long does it take until poverty reaches the middle class?
It’s about increasing wages to get rid of poverty and make abled Americans work. To increase the amount of jobs in our Country so we can be more independent. The opposite of what Trump has been doing for years. Giving jobs to China.
That’s my stance. You don’t have to like it just how I don’t like your stance, but I’m hoping you can understand why I feel the way I do.
