The main thing they want to do is give everyone a chance at joining and possibly winning an event. (ET) used to constantly win and find warpers, and soemtimes newer players wouldn't even know where to go.

if they didnt know where to go, what makes you think theyd even have a chance of winning the event (let alone know what they were doing- because if i were new to the game i'd be confused)? i get everyone should be included, but there's situations (such as this one) where playing the game longer and having seniority is a perk/needed (no one was good at sparring when they first start playing the game, it takes time and effort). play longer, learn the game, and then you'd be able to even have a chance at winning anyways.
on a side note, (ET) was only successful because we always worked together. you could say thats "cheap/unfair" but is it really? anyone had the opportunity to do the same as ET, we just happened to become pretty damn good at events. it's just like a guild dominating the GST every season. I'll use Alumni as an example because they've won consecutively, but it's not unfair because they've earned it. same goes with ET as you mentioned it.
(also, there were a lot of occasions that ET didn't win anyway)
