That was not "guild rivalry" nor was it promoting "competition." It was just a spontaneous "Hey everyone who sees this, go pk this one spot because Im Xor and I said so." Lasted about 5minutes. Enough time to make server scripts freeze solid for a good minute.

Spoiler Yeah, when your donkey (server) isn't strong enough to pull a wagon that's loaded down with everything you own (3700-4000players), don't beat it death with a crowbar and don't pile more stuff on the wagon. Get a stronger horse (upgrade the damn server)
