It is true that it people connect more than they used to but we also have organised health care now. The fact that people travel more is countered by the way we can combat disease.

We have organized health care, but you know how many rooms we have that are said to be adequate enough material to combat a disease such as Ebola? (I think they are called biohazard rooms)? We have less than 20 spread out among 4 hospitals in the US. Enough to contain an outbreak hopefully, but not enough to stop an outbreak that has already started. Sure, it is better than Africa, but someone sick got into a very public place and we would have people in places where it would be too hard to contain the virus (normal hospital rooms)
