Well firstly2012 was not religious. It was a misinterpretation of the Mayan Calendar, backed by all sorts of bull**** from the media.
Ebola is quite the same, none of this hysteria is based on medical or scientific understanding, a good portion of the people all hyped up about it have little to no medical or scientific knowledge, outside of "it is possible for a virus to mutate", when half the time none of those people have any idea what the **** they just said. I've seriously heard people who outright deny evolution and anything like it say that Ebola is going to mutate and go airborne.
If you really think it will, here is an interesting article I found.
To me it feels like the kind of people worried about Ebola going airborne are either just flat out stupid, or haven't done any sort of research on it, and are just listening to what the read on twitter and random pop-up news sites. If you want to spend a ton of money on non-perishable food go ahead, maybe you can donate it to a food bank for thanksgiving once this crap has blown over.

I am not worried because it might mutate. I am concerned because if this **** gets into schools/a very public zone, it could spread ridiculously fast, even if it isn't very contagious to begin with. All it takes is one snot-nosed kid at my school to leave his germs all over the school textbooks, desks, tables, shared drinks and vapes, hugs, handshakes, highfives, ect.
Next thing you know we have 20 new cases of Ebola.
Seriously, the hygeine in some places is so much **** that nearly everyone manages to catch the same sicknesses when it comes around. Today in my anthropology I looked down at my desk and I saw bloody mucus rubbed all down the corner of my desk. I also was partnered with some kid who seemed like he had the flu. He was insanely pale and red eyed. He was having deep productive coughs into his hands and then started to type on the computer and use the mouse.
People can get sick easily from pretty much anything in these environments. Then- these kids go home and take the virus to their family. This means once ALL the kids are quarantined at school after some time, the whole families will have to be quarantined and anyone working in these households would not be able to. That is ALOT of people for CDC to deal with, and I don't trust they could do it effectively as they have already failed to monitoring possible victims.
