Was there ever an anime series which you thought was incredible, despite it not being very well known or rather obscure? Discover this new series that hasn't been brought to light yet? Post about them, I want to try out some obscure (quality) shows I've never heard about. And, general underrated anime and discovery thread.
One of my favorites was Inu X Boku SS, as you may have seen me mention on occasion. I hear little to nothing (actually, nothing) about this series no matter where I go unless it's a site/forum dedicated to the show, and those are very few and far between. The show is about a middle school girl with a terrible habit, who moves out of her house to live by herself into a superficially prestigious hotel, designed for "people of her kind". Inu Boku SS has a really nice storyline and strong character development given the short nature of the series, and presents elements of fantasy while still introducing very realistic slice of life problems and hurdles. The music and OST is incredible, all of it was composed specifically for the series and lets off a comforting feel very befitting of the series. Artwork and presentation is top-notch - the art and even the setting remains very modern and minimalistic while still being very beautiful and calming. The series also squeezes in some very hilarious scenes and perfect comedy relief, despite not being a heavy drama-focused series. The protagonist is finally very well-done and executed nicely with brilliant character development. There are some quirks in the series, however; the ones come to mind are some scenes of fanservice, one or two clich? moments, and some unrealistic elements (but that's why it's a fantasy!) - though, the fanservice is honestly ignorable and thankfully not over-the-top. There are a few clich? phrases and moments in the early episodes but they all but thin out by the end of the series.
Overall, this is a very, very nice show and I'm thoroughly surprised it isn't popular as I think it caters perfectly to the same types of people who enjoyed Sakurasou. I encourage you to give the show a shot if you're into romances, comedies, or slice of life and even fantasy. The first episode may seem cheesy, rushed and maybe a little clich?, but look past it! It really flourishes into something great.
Now that I remembered this show, I'm off to rewatch it.
