its used as the main display if your wii is disconected from your tv or the input is changed..not sure exactly how it works but thats what it does in the ad.

Actually, thats not true. :o
Nintendo has said that developers can use the second screen however they like.
They
can use it as a main display.
In the New Super Mario Bros. Mii example, it can be used to play the entire game on the display, without the use of a tv.
But in other demos, it was used as a shield, a looking glass, an inventory, map, etc.
So...if the developers want the ability to throw the screen onto the controller, they can do that. But thats not its main use.
