What about, actually fight the dragon before bashing it? Thanks.

Why do you assume I haven't?

Rusing for minecon on some things such as mod-support and such is a problem I think is pretty obvious, but that was because they had to get a finished product for minecon. That is one part i dont like about mojang, but they are a new developer that hadn't even been around for a year when they made the decision to release a full version of minecraft for minecon, and this did make some content suffer, but it wasn't because they are half assing, its because they didn't want to dissapoint their fans on a bad move made by a new company.

No, their company got the better of them, that's my problem. Now they have to do shows, rush releases to meet deadlines instead of doing what's better for the product. They're everything that they claim an indie developer shouldn't be. They're a slave to their own company. Notch was pushing out more content in a week every week than he has in months and months of delays. There's a reason mods like "Better than wolves" were created, because modders know that Notch isn't doing all that Minecraft is capable of.
This is exactly what i meant by you constantly looking at its negatives. This is what i see as the finished product:

That's nice, but that doesn't excuse my screenshot. That's my perspective, I can admire the good and the bad, without thinking good things cancel out the bad. It doesn't work like that. I don't care how good a game is it doesn't cancel out huge bugs.
|
Excuse me, but when was the last time you were happy about an update? Its only natural to assume that when someone is constantly bashing seemingly everything about something ( example: "Notch hasn't kept his word on a single promise he has made since he started his company.") that they have a bias towards a particular viewpoint. I dont know where you got that I have a bias from at all.
|
Just because I'm not vocal about how happy I am about something doesn't mean I don't admire it. I've liked lots of tiny things, and I've been pretty vocal about those things, you're just not around to hear them. See, but here's the thing, right now the bad things are outweighing the good. Minecraft hardly gets any content, and the content it does get is often unfinished. Achievements? Added and then never touched again, even though they have the potential to provide content, even miniscule. Trap doors? Poorly implemented and a pain in the ass to use. Swamps? Slapped on top of the terrain, not even properly integrated into the biome code, and then just left there. Mushroom biomes have no purpose at all, and like the swamp they're just slapped over the terrain. The nether went a long time without having any real purpose, and was a huge complaint from lots of players. Its purpose is still a bit lacking other than harvesting a few things that aren't very useful. Moon phases were added, but only visually, even though they had the potential to add some deeper gameplay. NPC villages were added with the promise of NPCs... surprise, NPCs did nothing and were pulled, citing potential release in a year after they hire an AI programmer. What happened to lanterns? Oh right. They never get half of the stuff they say they will in an update. These additions are lacking compared to the numerous bugs they introduce, or more importantly, what
could have been. Look at XP orbs. They were added and not even addressed. The server was unplayable for days, and Jeb said they were going to release an emergency update to fix the issue but he never did. Instead they decided to wait for the next major release. That's the kind of stuff that annoys me.
I like lots of small things, but that's just it, the smallest things tend to be the most interesting and it shouldn't be like that. I like the chests animations, and the enchanting book animation, but now the rest of the world looks lacking. Now things like doors should animate or else they look out of date, but that'll never happen.
And yes, if you ever followed Notch you'd have seen that he has promised a lot of things over the years he's been working on Minecraft. No it's not biased because he actually has fallen through on most of them. He said if he ever got bored of Minecraft, or if sales ever slowed down he'd release it open source. And this was after he made lot of money. He respected what he had made and respected the players who supported him. But do you think that'd happen now? Of course not, it's not in the companies best interest. Exactly, the company. And that's what it boils down to. These updates lack enthusiasm, they lack the spirit of a developer enjoying what he's doing. It feels like Graal now.
