He's moving to a VPS so it won't matter how many "slots" someone else can offer him. With this new host, he can host multiple things, not just a minecraft server.

Which is a worse idea :
1. If he puts in a random number of slots, he'd get an CPU overuse.
2. Turning on dual servers would make it use twice more CPU and RAM
3. Players are paying for the server, let's consider he has it set as VPS for 2+ servers or data storages, once in a while players would stop paying, which will lead to the loss of all data in both(+) servers.
The host I use simply gives an easier UI on me, with FTP access, and is responsible with everything that happens with my server. Last time they got for maintenance for 2-3 hours for adding the 1.5 jar file to the selection popup, they gave me an extra 2 days server uptime
