I will never understand thieves. They must have some sort of mental disorder to lower them to such primitive, desperate measures for money.

Kleptomania is a compulsion to steal things. The object may not even hold value or want to the person, stealing from others is what makes them happy. Like if you were holding a paperclip, a kleptomaniac (depending on severity of his/her illness) would treat it as if you were holding a diamond and do anything to take it away from you.
