"Simple" phones like iPhone and Windows Phone get old real fast. They're just boring all around. Simple is better for older people hence the original purpose of this thread.
It's not like Android is hard to use, it has more freedom and options, but it wouldn't be my first recommendation for an elderly woman.

It's still pretty easy to get around on.
By the way, does your Grandma need a touch phone? Get her a simple flip. It sounds as if you're trying to get her a un sophisticated smart phone, which are few in numbers. Get her something where she can call and text. I doubt she'll use any other features.
