Maybe let people jump off the cliff and lose like 10-20hp or something if they land on hard ground? Or putting trampolines buried in hidden locations that let you jump up the cliffs would be neat, too. If they were hidden under the sand, it'd still make the bridge the only common entrance

Stairs arent hard to portray, by the way, you can make them go parallel to the cliffs then at a right angle with a downward tilt. Kinda like:
