Yes, this is not a joke. The Walt Disney Co. announced today that it’s agreed to acquire Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion, and word quickly followed that there are plans in place for not one but three new “Star Wars” movies, the first of which (Episode VII) will arrive in theaters in 2015. Lucas, however, will only serve as a “creative consultant” and will not write or direct. Although, he has already made partial scripts for episodes VII VIII and IX in the past, and there are several books outlining their stories.
What do you think about this? Even though a 10+ year gap exists between the last star wars movie and the new one are they milking it? Will they ruin it without Lucas at the helm? Or, due to his absence, make an improvement from the prequels? Considering Disney has acquired Pixar and Marvel already and these two have moved on to make many great movies, could they pull off a new Star Wars trilogy as well? Sound off in the comments. This is going to be an interesting next 3 years.
