If you're thinking of getting source filmmaker, don't dump GMOD just yet. I recently got it, and as soon as I looked at it I was like "daaaaaaaaaang". The thing is extremely advanced, so stick with more simple machinima worthy stuff. Besides, doing it the old fashioned way is always a lot more fun
