The account system does not allow any new devices to access the account for a day after access has been revoked. This would be why you did not receive the email immediately.

I asked stefan this same question.
From what he said and from what I think it does:
After you completely revoke access for your email you have to wait about an hour before you can send another confirmation.
This was implemented because of people who have access to other another person's account and to prevent them from logging in again. Also stop them from spamming your email.
