Diablo 3
Did any of you scrubs play the open beta this weekend? I ran through co-op mode with a friend (played as monk, he was a barbarian) and wasn't exactly impressed.
Most people here probably haven't played D2 so I won't compare it. Just a couple things to note: - On Normal difficulty, the game is as casual and easy as it can possibly be. Seriously, games like Fez or Angry Birds have offered more challenge.
- Identifying is a useless game mechanic. No longer is there a point to it, you simply right click an item to identify it.
- D3 is trying to roam outside of the realm of "optimal builds," meaning they're trying to make it viable to be a melee mage, etc. I don't think it's going to work, but that much is cool.
- They are double-diming (triple, actually) players at RMAH (real money auction house). You have to pay a fee to list, you have to pay a success fee, and then a withdrawal fee. Blizzard will probably make more money from the RMAH than they ever would on flat sales.
- The level cap is apparently 60, leading me to believe they are going to make this another expansion game, like WoW. When it's all said and done, you'll probably have to pay over $200 for the full game.
- Servers cap at 4 players now. Kind of boring and way too low. Was hoping to see the Diablo franchise become more MMO. Would love to see servers with 128 people on them.
- PvP is going to be very strange based on the number of passive and active skills I've seen thus far. It's going to be arena-based, like WoW. There will be practically no world PvP.
Took us 1 hour and 8 minutes to run through the beta and beat the Skeleton King. We both healed twice, and all four times during the boss. It was a pretty fluid game but I don't think it's all that it was hyped up to be.
