The Final Fantasy Series
I'm not sure how many of you have played a game from the Final Fantasy series, but I'd argue that this is my favorite game series of all time. Although I had played my fair share of RPGs on the SNES, including Zelda: A Link To The Past, Final Fantasy VII is the real RPG that got me into the genre. I've been listening to the soundtracks of various games as I've been working over the past few weeks, so I figured I'd share my appreciation of the games.
Final Fantasy VII, if you don't already know, is something that everyone should have played at least once. People say it's overrated and it might be, but it will forever be in my heart (:'() because everything about it is great. I mean, you new age kids might not appreciate the graphics, but the music, gameplay, story and overall setting are perfect to me. My Graal nickname, and subsequent online-alias, was taken from Final Fantasy VII. Play it. Final Fantasy VIII is a game that I played years ago, but only got up to a certain point because there was something wrong with a disk. I replayed it last year through an emulator and I've got to admit it's pretty anti-climatic. Starts good, but ends in a mess. Final Fantasy XI is another game I started last year and haven't completed yet, but people seem to love this almost as much as Final Fantasy VII and it is pretty good so far. Final Fantasy X was fun too, and I even played the spin-off X-2 but I don't think I completed that. I have a habbit of not completing games. I haven't played any of the latest games in the series, but they just don't seem the same anymore. I mean, they look nice, but the gameplay seems so alien. It's gone from jRPG to action-RPG and I hate it. What's your experience with the series, do you like? What games have you played? |
Kingdom Hearts is still my fave, but Final Fantasy isn't bad either. I love their music <3

Never Beat FF7. Got to the third disc and eventually stopped. Loved FF8, surprisingly. I thought it was pretty fun, but again never beat it. My third disc had a scratch or something that caused it to freeze whenever a battle started. FFX was okay, I did beat that. Also powerleveled the hell out of my characters. But trying to replay it makes me cringe. The voice-acting and everything is pretty damn horrible.
I loved to grind Dark Cloud 2. Recommend it to anyone who likes action RPGs. |
Never really got into it

What about FFIV, V and VI? :[

Honestly I have never really gotten into a single final fantasy game, never really liked that genre, I've always been into platformers and puzzle games lol. I might try some of the originals, although the art style of the series never really caught my eye.

they always promise its the final fantasy, then they make another one, what the heck is up with that?

I never played the FF games for any extended period of time. However, I do end up replaying Legend of Dragoon like biannually. Awesome PSX game :D

Chrono trigger<3

I've never really been a fan of turn based fighting. I saw one of the movies though, so I know it has an interesting story. The gameplay just never appealed to me.
I've only played one of them, so I don't really have that strong of an opinion. |
1, 6,7 and 13 are my favorites, i hate 4 and 10 though

Final fantasy vi, best game ever! Second favorite would definitely be a link to the past. Lucia 2 was great as well. Shining force 1 and 2 were pretty stellar. Phantasy star 3 is an amazing game too.

Hey guys I don't think this thread is about talking about games that aren't Final Fantasy.
My thoughts on the first ten games: Final Fantasy: At its time was a souped up jRPG tailored to outperform the others. Other than that it's simply bare bones. Final Fantasy II: An experiment that kind of failed. It did a lot of new things, and to me the most interesting thing was the Empire having an Unstoppable Hell Army and how you had to fight them at the start to set the mood. The music was very atmospheric, and that was probably a first back then. The Overworld and the Rebel Army Theme in my view are one of the best FF songs out there. Final Fantasy III: The first FF game to feature a job changing system. A HUGE game for a NES game. The most memorable part was flying off the flying island to find an even bigger overworld that consisted of entirely water on the first trip. Being an early FF game a lot of parts were undeveloped. Many points were stupidly hard. The remake disappointed me for not using FFV's upgraded job system. Final Fantasy IV: A game that experimented with its new SNES hardware. A lot of the story seemed like it was made up on the go and felt cartoony at times. But it was fun. Golbez was a really cool villain, and this game features - in my opinion - the best overall FF soundtrack, but not by a long shot at all. Final Fantasy V: Only memorable for its job system. The story cranked its absurdity too high to be taken too seriously and has the least celebrated soundtrack of all the Final Fantasy games. Final Fantasy VI: Known for featuring a groundbreaking shift of tone and many other things like its huge playable character cast that didn't center around one. Many parts of it are outdated now honestly, but it seems like it has the most dedicated and passionate following that I think deserves. And I have to mention its great soundtrack that featured so many different styles. Final Fantasy VII: What an overpopular and underrated game. Yes, I'm calling it underrated now because I think there's too many tryhard lightweights slinging mud at it nowadays. Its prerendered visuals were decades ahead of any other work before it. The game did some interesting new things such as: Having to raid corporations instead of dungeons and castles, at the beginning your party being terrorists , and your planet wanting to kill you cause your race is killing it. Midgar is well-made, and Cloud and Barret actually happen to be very outstanding characters. Final Fantasy VIII: What a mess, but it's a very interesting mess. I honestly have no words for this other game, but it's not really bad. Final Fantasy IX: Never played it. I heard it starts out excellently but progressively worsens. Final Fantasy X: I'm not sure what to exactly say about this game. It's nice, but it didn't feel much like an RPG? Sin is one hell of a villain though. |
