New Looting Event?
 
i just came up with this idea yesturday and i think it will be epic. so i think that people will get a chance to rarely loot an item called "The Orb Of Pollution" that can summon a huge circle of loot for lots of people to see.

once they get that item, they will have a limit of 10 minutes to have that item in your inventory before the orb of pollution withers away. that method is for preventing spam on summoning the giant circle of loot.

the huge round dark spot is the spot where people get to loot instantly. no more timing your looting skills in there. 10 lucky players will receive a treasure chest. or the "Sunken Chest" containing a prize of water hats, some mounts and sometimes a black or gold gralat, or whatever feels best for the server.

you can only use the Orb of pollution every 4 hours and it must be summoned inside a big lake or ocean. i.e: a lake in york town, balamb island ocean, oasis ocean, Big City Ocean, Lakes between castle and delteria island.

Though I don't like the idea, I would give some constructive criticism.
The water itself is not an NPC, but a tileset, and would not be so easy to change dynamically. Most areas with water would not have the space for the object/area effect you displayed. How could this be done otherwise?

I don't see this happening as there is no way to balance this while making it fair for every single player.
  • A 4 hour cooldown per player means they could still just hang out in the same area and continuously farm these things to obtain an absurd amount of loot.
  • If there is a 4 hour cooldown for the entire server then it'll be unfair due to people being left out because they're not online at the right time plus it'll render the orbs of every other person useless.
  • It'll create a lag hotspot due to all the looting animations of every player and them being in the same area.
  • Being able to loot instantly is too overpowered in general, you could do this instead of getting the same amount of loot from normal looting in X amount of time.

So yeah, I don't really see how something like this would fit in the current meta of looting without it being overnerfed(like everything else) to the point where it seems almost pointless.

The first point is true, except thats the same thing for GST or say the Blob for example, if you arent on at the right time you just simply miss out (disregarding being on a team for GST)

For the second point, it could be that you have a certain amount of time to get a certain amount of loot in a given area, and depending on how much you get in that time determines the reward you get

Actually the blob is summoned now. You have to kill a number of small blobs and then it gets triggered and attacks. It's not on a timer, though it was in the past.

With gst you get a date way ahead of time before the event happens, something as randomized as this idea doesn't

Also the reason a special spawn mechanic works for the slime boss is because it can only spawn in the area that is swamptown
