Backpacking in Europe
Hey guys! My friends and I want to plan a huge month-long trip in Europe next summer, before we graduate. We plan to hit up as many popular tourist destinations as possible, and spend as little money as possible (I only make so much money with my part-time job).
The first hurdle we have to jump through is how we can find the cheapest flight to Europe. We are looking for something round trip of course, and hopefully under a thousand dollars. We plan to leave in June, after graduation, where flights are outrageously expensive. Does anyone have tips to find the cheapest flight? Perhaps there's a site you recommend where students can get discounts? Also we have to select tourist destinations. Know of any places we could hit up in Europe? Name some of your favorite attractions. Thanks in advance for all your help, guys! |
I would suggest checking out interrail's website (http://www.interrail.eu/). It's a cheap way to travel around Europe as students. You will also experience that East-Europe is far less expensive that West-Europe, with both food, and living expenses.
If you don't want to spend a lot of money, then Scandinavia is kind of out of the question. What would be an easy way of saving money is to do couch surfing (https://www.couchsurfing.com/places/europe) or trying to stay over at friends places - thats if you have any friends living in Europe. Best of luck with your planning! |
Thanks, Guri! do you know of a cheap way to fly to Europe from the USA?

i dont wanna be "that guy" but as someone who's lived in both the US and Europe...Europe is ****ing overrated man. It's nice in some of the countries, sure, but I feel like you'd get the full experience just going to someplace like Croatia or something and partying/exploring that country instead of backpacking through Europe.
once you've seen a couple of cities you've pretty much seen it all. but whatevs man have fun on your backpackin journey. ive met americans doing the same thing. |
I personally recommend Air Norway. You kind of get what you pay for, but it gets you there, regardless. Their planes are fairly new and if I remember most things are served à la carte unfortunately but it's not bad. You can look up reviews and references to see what you think. Since you're from ******ia you might have to catch a flight from there to JFK or BOS but hopefully domestic flights wont be too bad.

norwegian airlines and ryan air will be your best friends when it comes to flights. for cheap flights between the US and EU you gotta find sweet deals because there is no single cheapest option. will prob be your biggest expense
taking trains/buses is useful if you're going across smaller countries but im not sure how much they cost hostels are fun to stay at and pretty cheap compared to hotels |

UPDATE: my friends and I have decided that we want to backpack in the USA for a bit, and the summer after (after freshman year of college) we'll leave a bit earlier for Europe as plane tickets will be cheaper when the term ends.
