Current situation with bugs

So if you haven't noticed already there has been another bug that has fell victim to... well, "The Bug." Mantises have begun to spawn out of control like bugs before it: ladybugs, roaches, bees. Because of this, their sell price has since been lowered drastically and there has been a lot of outrage.

It may seem like it's greedy on our part but you have to understand jobs like bug catching and looting, and anything that introduces gralats into the economy are designed, monitored and tweaked to our original designs. The goal of all jobs introduced into the game is to add variety and options, not to have one that offers more money than others. When things go wrong and gralats start pouring into the economy we have to address it as it introduces an imbalance into our content that we did not desire when it was planned.

Bugs have been spawning out of control lately, completely on its own accord, and it needed to be addressed. We were hoping the playerbase could just cope with a few bugs disappearing and lowered prices until we had time to address the issue but sadly the situation has been snowballing out of control. We have to postpone other more important content to sit down and address these problems--something we didn't want to do either.

If we let players just go on doing what they were doing with the bugs spawning the way they were then prices would start to inflate to compensate for the new influx of gralats into the economy and no one wants that. So in order to properly deal with this we are going to disable bugs until a new system is developed to spawn and maintain the bug population. As much as an inconvenience players will see this as it's for the best, for everyone, that it gets done.

Summer is the season of bug-catching, we know, so we are going to do our best to deal with the problem in a way that entertains players. We'll be hosting a special, first-time event while bugs are disabled to hopefully fill the void that is bug-catching.

We apologize for the inconvenience and hope you all understand.

Very understandable, and I'm glad you explained the situation thanks dust!

Thanks for explaining! I know a few people that haven't been able to catch bugs, or be online much in general, due to finals so it's nice to know what's going on with the bugs (and why)

Thanks for that update. I again thought that the mantises were being spawned too fast, but had thought it was because of player-base number increasing. Was too greedy for my own good to realize it was another bug within the system.

Hope you guys are able to fix and good luck.

P.S: Probably needs to be on news too.

I guess part of me is upset because I saw this coming and I was going to sell my mantises last night because of it, but I decided against it. Obviously I made the wrong decision, but it's not a huge deal.

Mantises were spawning out of control, but players were fighting over them like crazy in all the areas, so no one really had a monopoly on them.

I don't think lowering the value is the right call. Because that screws over a lot of innocent players too (and technically everyone is innocent anyway. People were just catching bugs as they were spawning. Not the players' faults that the spawn rate was jacked). I even posted about this 2 days ago to try and grab someone's attention so this exact thing (price nerf) wouldn't happen. So yeah, I'm a little ticked off.

But other than that, I appreciate you making this thread and acknowledging and dealing with the situation. I know it's a difficult situation to deal with.

A bummer, hopefully the spawn system can be rebuilt so that this situation can be avoided in the future.

Statistics beg to differ. And it doesn't matter if one player got all the money or not, it's a lot of unintentional money pouring into the economy. Distributed evenly or not it's money that shouldn't have been there.

It's not the players fault they were catching the bugs, but that doesn't mean they deserve the easy income. Logs show a dramatic increase in bug-catching income before you even reported it and that's only players who were selling bugs. That doesn't account for bugs already caught and waiting to be sold. Chances are the damage was already done and measures needed to be taken.

That's exactly what is being done.

I know. I was just being petty. Truth be told I respect the hell out of you for always handling these situations professionally. There's always gonna be blow-back from the community when stuff like this happens.

I just wish you had some freaking help. I mean, this had been going on for a number of days. Classic's playerbase is consistently growing. It seriously needs more devs. I mean I've been saying that for a long time, but it's never been more true.

For god sake Toonslab, give Dusty a team.
