i finally got art goals
. art progress thread .

If you were familiar with me while I was active in art, you might've noticed I dropped art for a long while, focusing on college and writing instead (since I'm a Creative Writing major). I didn't mean to drop it entirely, but that's kinda what happened. I had moments where I tried to pick it up again, but it was always short lived.

So, I decided I'm going to get back into it, and take it more seriously this time. I've been sticking to it for the past couple weeks, so I feel like it's happening. Plus, (and really, my main goal) I'd like to do some illustrating for my books, so I'm not going to be easily satisfied with results.

The posted picture (above) is the most recent piece I did, and probably the style I'm going to be developing in this thread.

Oh boy have you improved :0

Glad to see you back :D

The only problem I see is the head size, but The colours you use is soo soft, soo nice and light, and the lips soo cute and puffy! love it. <3

Thanks guys! Glad to be back into it.

@Asaki- you're right-- but I can't say yet if my style is going to copy realistic proportions. I'm highly inspired by cartoonish proportions, so that'll likely be reflected in my personal art. However, in art studies (which I'll post soon) I do copy real life proportions. I'd love your feedback for those, when I do post them.

love it and am happy you're back at it!

Great stuff! :)

Thanks you two, appreciate it <3

update-- I was super exhausted today, but didn't want to sleep without doing at least one study. Sooo, I did a quick lighting study on Finn, from Star Wars VII (aka didn't focus or attempt proper skin texture or coloring). Hmmm now that I look at it, I need to go back and make it darker... oh well, too sleepy right now.

I want to make a gender-bent version of him as well, so that's in the works. (As much as I love Finn tho, I'm still a hardcore Reylo shipper. Idek why-- it just feels so right.)

The edit:

I outlined the original artwork and to see if I can edit it to help you! idk why but I really wanna help you with the face placement, and emoutione.

here's are what I fixed:
  • After outlining your artwork (tracing it) I used free deform tool to fix some areas which looks a bit in the wrong place with the basic head shape itself.
  • And the eyebrow looks like it's naturally like that, so I added some stress marks (the wrinkles) you see when you make the face.
  • I didn't paint it all so I just lightly shaded the things which needs to be shaded, not really important.
  • And also with the head shape itself, I drawn the top a bit more flat rather than round, since the person you're drawing has a flat top on the head? Don't know what word to use but you get the point.
  • and also if you shade the eyes like that it would look like he has makeup.
  • And also the arm in the picture is fairly near to the neck so I added the arm mark? I don't know what word to use again.
  • and the ear isn't that round for the person, so I fixed it by making it like the person's ear.

Overall your artwork is great ^_^ (it's always great.)

Tbh hers looks a lot more like fin. Assuming you haven't watched the latest Star Wars film (you never referred to his name), you probably haven't seen Finn in all around views of his head/body, which probably also influenced her interpretation. Her angle seems slightly different from the image, which is aiming downward, rather than upward as in the image, which also influenced her drawing in that she was able to include angles and lines different from the image.

I see she went for more of a softer, simplistic if you will, interpretation. I wouldn't stress the smallest details too much, but Asaiki was right about paying attention to lines, especially on top. I honestly would have only said something about the nose shape, it seems too flat compared to Finn's.

I didn't know she went for a simplistic style, but, yup I agree with you.
