I think he used to have hermit crabs, named them each with a letter, enabled them to be pulled and then put them all underneath the chest. When he pulled back on the chest it would pick one crab out of all of them there.

But yeah, I guess that doesn't work anymore, hence the redesign :(

P.S. - For randomization WITHOUT GS dice gani, use a pet. Put it in the "Middle box" and put flowers around the outside edge of the box. Set the pet to move around - first flower the pet touches, clears the correspondingly colored player-area outside the center box. The suspense builds as the pet shuffles around, this way too ;)

Or you can always use the magic 8-ball.
