Desktop build?

So, I'll be buying new pc parts in a few weeks, and this is the build I came up with. Is there anything you guys would recommend changing?

MBK 07-10-2015 07:00 AM

Overall a nice and stable build, but if you go with gtx 950(which is about to come out soon) insted of gtx960,you save around 50$ without muxh performance difference.(GD says it's around 14%)...but that's just an opinion.Maybe you could invest those bucks in a better keybord or something.

Also, maybe the PSU is an overkill...i think around 600W or 650W at most would suffice.

Do you really need water-cooling - an h100i is meant for like 5 ghz.

Crono 07-11-2015 09:01 AM

I'd switch the h100i for a solid air solution and use the money saved + a little extra to go towards a 970 or 390 (depending on your preference).

really bad mish-mash of parts

like Crono said there's no reason to get that closed loop water cooler for $132 when that graphic card is going to bottleneck any significant overclock you can get out of that build

if you're in any form of schooling atm look into seeing if Microsoft Dreamspark or some other type of free/severely reduced windows license is available to you - with the upgrade to win10 coming in 2.5 weeks you can save yourself a significant amount of money on an OEM os

there is no reason for a 750w power supply in this build unless you're expecting to to 3 or 4 way SLI the GTX 960 which would be incredibly foolish given the 2gb RAM limitation, meaning that SLI set up isn't going to serve it's purpose of driving high pixel (4k) resolutions anyway. You should be looking at 430-500w PSUs at the most.

He would need to buy a new PSU if he ever thinks of upgrading.

That's not true, if you're always buying mid-range cards every generation then you don't need to.

Currently reconsidering that, I could most likely go with a better GPU.

I won't be buying the OS right away though. Unles I can muster up some more money soon, I'll wait a little bit for the OS.

I'll most likely switch the water cooling out for the 970. I'm keeping my PSU as I'll probably upgrade relatively soon.

Kind of revised, here's the newer build, http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/FrbHTW.

Any better?(it's basically the same thing Crono did).

In the near future when I do a new build I'm not even gonna bother with old HDD's. I have a 256GB SSD + 500GB HDD but I could do just fine with a single 500GB SSD.

The Noctua I linked actually outperforms that Seidon cooler you picked, but I guess it is slightly cheaper.

I usually never tell people to get "weaker" PSUs but I honestly don't think you need a gold-rated 750W. With the money you save from a bronze you can spend more on SSD's or so.

edit: ok i should have asked, whats the max you're spending here?

I'm planning to have the OS on my SDD, with other resource consuming programs. Both my external and internal HDD filled up pretty quickly so I'm staying with 1TB.
I'm not too sure about the PSU though. Plus I'm not too sure what my max is. It's either between $1,000 and $2,000CAD (this is if I can accumulate more relatively soon though).

Fair enough. : - )

I dunno I reused an old HDD when I did a new build because you can never have too much space. 500GB is a lot of TV I can download if I want.

I guess having really fast internet means I can just download anything I want instead of having to hoard it on my HD.

I've got pretty fast internet, but with a limit of 150 GB per month :[

Get an i7 as opposed to an i5, you'll be much happier.
