Player Submitted Graphics

I think the York Forgery should be used as a hat shop for GFX made by the community, and should rotate hats monthly. Gives a chance for players to get what they want and allow them to get their GFX into the game.

This worked really well when it first opened, yet I guess the amount of hats the GFX team is producing isn't enough even though the community of artists would be more than happy to create GFX for the game.

Thoughts?

Maybe not so routine as I wouldn't feel confident in them receiving enough plausible, usable submissions (considering they have a designated style now too). But yeah, occasionally updated with player hats would be cool

I agree with the idea, but I remember someone saying why they stay away from player made stuff. I think it was dusty, but I couldn't find the quote.

The problem they were having was that 1. it took more time to go over all the submissions and fixing the few that passed their standards than them just doing them themselves, and 2. there's always the problems with stolen graphics(example the hat shadowfox made and was submitted by someone to classic)

If I remember where the quote was I'll post it.

I like when they did the christmas hat and all were 1gralat ingame and then the halloween ones that were fairly cheap (post on forum better than behind the scenes imo) so all posts are there to be looked through and are quicker to see and moniter

Coco said something about that.

I used to think this was a great idea and always wanted to do something like it...until I did the Christmas submissions and suddenly I was like..

i.e. Doing something like that is tedious process that no one would want to go through. Maybe in the future when someone is willing to sell their soul to the god of brain aneurysms and mindlessly sort though player submissions until they're brain dead. Doing this once a year is bad enough for the poor unfortunate soul that has to.

This is exactly why it shouldn't be done regularly. If you think player submissions are a good idea then you severely overestimate the number of players with artistic talent. Sure you may get a couple, 5 at the most, good hats. But to regularly stock and restock a shop with playermade hats is not plausible. What will happen is you will get one or two players who are good at graphics that who are essentially stocking the shop, and once someone takes notice, they might get hired for the graphics team because they are good and already making graphics for the server. Now you have no good artists to stock the shop and are stuck loading it with things you don't want on the server, or just removing the shop and taking the heat of players upset about that.

That isn't even taking to mind the fact that someone has to go through all these hats, which isn't as hard to do as it is made out because most of the hats will be obvious "no"s, but then you will get hats that look too good for the artist to have made them, and you have to scour the internet to make sure that they didn't steal it (replacing stolen hats that are already released is a bitch).

That is just my experience from doing playermade hatshops on Zone though, Classic will probably have a few more talented artists, and the sorting will probably be more droning, however I imagine it will be about the same.

I think that Classic should just stick with staff made hats, because playermade hats just aren't worth the trouble, they are just hats either way, why does it matter who made them? It doesn't 'bring the community together', there are better ways for people to grow as artists, and the hats usually suck. Christmas is a different story because it goes along with the whole spirit of giving to others, and a little bit of playermade goodies are always good.

Let's not forget that stolen content is very common when dealing with player submissions!

What happens if stolen/copyright graphics get through? Someone on staff has to redo the graphics, completely nullifying the "benefit" of having a player submission.
