Hard Time Communicating with Otaku

How can I communicate with other anime fans?

Okay, so whenever I try to communicate with an Otaku, all they ever say to me is, "What anime do you like?" "Favorite genre?" and "What're you currently watching?" Those are the most frequenly asked questions. When I answer all those questions, bam. Conversation ends. What I want is a way to keep the conversation going, without the replier saying "ok." "Ok... Well bye." Etc. I want a discussion. But I really don't know how to start.

Conversation Examples:

Me: Hey dude! Did you see that new episode of Fate Stay Night UBW?

Friend: Yes! It was intensed. Ufotable have gone and done it again with their unlimited budget works.

Me:
Spoiler
Ikr, the "huge" reveals about Archer and Emiya, and Lancer joining forces, can't wait till next week!

Friend: Omfg, I can't wait I'm going to go read the VN. Wanna Skype and read along?

Me: Sure, I don't see why not, I don't mind being spoiled!

Okay, so that's the ideal conversation I want to have with another person, but somehow, it always end up awkwardly. I don't know why. I'm still trying to figure out how to go the route I want the conversation to go.

How do you discuss anime with another person? Post below!

Maybe stop perceiving them as... "otakus" (lmao @ "otaku")... and start seeing them as regular people with similar interests.

But like, what should I ask them when they finish asking questions?

Like I said, I want me, and the person I'm talking to, to discuss, theory craft, and have a fun chat together, but I can't seem to go that route.

If you're not a natural people-person, those kinds of conversations don't happen naturally at all. You need to take some time and be comfortable friends with them before you can have non-awkward conversations out of the blue, even if you're both likeminded. Don't think so hard about what you're going to say like you're under intense pressure of being judged or accepted.

Just do you.
