I think their ideas are way too elaborate to be well-suited for Zombies gamemode. For a casual player like me there's just way too much going on and no real time to sit down and sort it out. On the WaW zombies it was simple. Kill zombies, get to basement, spam box until you get a nice weapon and repeat over and over. Then Black Ops came along and it was overwhelming for me, I couldn't really get into it. Black Ops 2 was a bit more lenient since they allowed you to drop the difficulty to easy, but it's still so much packed into a gamemode that doesn't really give you a chance to actually explore it. This is pretty blatant on Tranzit, and especially true on the new Mob of the Dead(from what I've watched of Seananner's gameplay). So much stuff jammed into the level with no time to sit down and relax and appreciate/explore the world.

Not saying it's bad, exactly... but they don't give a chance for casual players of zombies(you know, the people who die around level 15-20 or so, not the people who get to round 40+ every time they play) to appreciate all the work they put into it.

I actually like having all these things to do. It gives me a reason to play again. If I wanted to I could go and get to round 40 and have everything done in one go but then when I want to play the map again I got nothing to do since I already did it all. I find it fun to get a few things here and there done but not complete the whole entire thing because I like starting a new game and give myself a goal to accomplish before losing. That is how I play so I can't talk for others but I'm one of those people who doesn't want to get it done as soon as I get it. I've had the game for pretty long time and I still haven't done everything in tranzit. It's just part of the fun in my opinion.

Ya I get it, and like I said it isn't really a bad thing. It's never really a bad thing to have so much to do. But for me, while there's lots of smaller things I can find to do ultimately I get bored of the actual purpose of Zombies(ya, I can build this, and I can go this way instead of that way and there's lots of little secrets... but I'm still killing zombies the same way each and every game). I just don't think the core gameplay that Zombies has evolved from was really ever suited for how expansive the series has gotten. It doesn't help that whether or not you have a good game is completely based on luck. The game is fun when the odds are in my favor and I get decent weapons from the mystery box and so on, but it's a drag when I play and I get: sniper rifle -> ballistic knife -> EMP grenades -> grenade launcher -> ballistic knife -> grenade launcher -> bear. Suddenly you're not playing the game, but wasting your time trying to get points so the random box grants you the privilege to actually start playing the game.

The other night I played with my nephew and never got a single decent weapon from the mystery box. I rolled like 10 times. By the time we died we were on round 12 and I had a grenade launcher and python. I never got to get any perks because I never got even a semi-decent gun from the box.

But like I said I'm a bit on the casual side. I don't get that into the game, so I'm sure a lot of people would laugh at my playstyle and tell me I'm doing it wrong. It's just that zombies is quite a time investment, and it sucks to waste 30-45 minutes with nothing but bad luck.

I agree that luck is a huge factor in zombies since getting to the higher rounds you need to have really good guns. I also agree that the series didn't change much apart from maps and buildables, but from what I see they are trying to incorporate some kind of story but they cannot get away with just an ending. The game has evolved to being "who gets the most points and highest round" then from what others might enjoy like "Completed the game in --:-- time or got these achievements while playing". The problem with the zombies part of the game is how changing it can affect how people think of it. Since the Call Of Duty community is really large and some people have been playing since their first game, changing something that has been same through out many games could make them hate it. They have gotten so used to having the rounds and trying to get the highest possible that having a different method of zombies would freak them out. Treyarch is probably trying to slowly bring in a story to the game with the new features they are adding but they are doing it at a pace for players to get comfortable before changing anything drastically. That is my thought on what is happening or what will happen but I agree that it does get hard to play and not being lucky or just having fun instead of going for high rounds gets annoying. Having some sort of story or adventure other then running in circles killing 10000s of zombies will make the game interesting for many players including me but there are also those who like how it is. I also want to say I'm not much of a zombie player, I play it from time to time but I'm more into multiplayer. I'm just sharing my thoughts and opinions because zombies can get boring but it is fun to play when I have nothing to do and it can be improved in many ways to become more fun and less repetitive.

Nuketown Zombies is a good map for casuals.
Really small map and there's only 2 main areas to open which is just the backyards for the two houses.

In my opinion, I think that Treyarch is trying to make you more tactical when playing. WaW is simple as you said, just kill the zombies, open some doors, then spam box. In BO2 however, there are more possibilities of what you can do. For example, in Tranzit, you could stay until round 4 in Bus depot not opening any doors to rack up points, then the bus horns and you jump on. Or you could just go everywhere and build anything or you could camp then leave a crawler. Also the selection of perks are good, and make you think more about which ones suit how you play, especially in Die Rise. With the bad luck, it's your choice to continue with the box. There are plenty good guns on the walls (my fav. is the AN with 330 ammo capacity on Die Rise), so why don't you just get them? I resist the urge to use the box.

I was playing Town. I am unaware of any decent wall weapons, and either way my enjoyment comes from having a weapon capable of actually doing something and the only way to achieve that is to get something decent from the box. I don't expect a Ray gun but even a decent AR would make it worth it over a wall weapon. There's honestly not much tactic to zombies that the mystery box breaks. Even the best gun can only get you so far. The only true tactic to zombies is running a train. All their additions and changes still does nothing to change the fact the train is the most effective way to "win" at Zombies.

Town is definitely based on luck, that map doesn't have any good guns in it and also in tranzit it's empty. If you are looking for a casual map I would suggest Nuketown zombies like Rexx said because it is the most casual map. there are 3 places for the mystery box and they are all near each other. Very decent guns on the walls if you dont have any luck with the box. The only issue I have with the map is the countdown for every perk to drop. Usually juggernaut will drop from 1-3 time but it is pretty easy to survive before going down to round 30. At round 30 you should already have al perks down and pack a punch. Plus after a while in zombies all you really do is keep using the box to find a good weapon to pack a punch. If you dont have Nuketown then I would stick to tranzit or town. Tranzit is fun because there are lots of good weapons on the wall, even some that are not in main landmarks (ex: m16 and bowie knife). Tranzit is easier to survive off walls on guns then town. For a casual game on the other hand I would just go off on town and hope you get a good weapon from the box. But the starting maps on Black Ops 2 are not very good, they are a new style but not the same as they were before. It's a different challenge now because you have to rely on the box and building different things to keep playing.

Spoiler
Mob of the Dead is so weird. Played it today for the first time :3 The first thoughts going through my head were "Aaaah why am I a ghost zombie?" and when I went on the plane "YES the game is finished thank - Wait why are we crashing?". I felt scammed when you had to go back to the prison.
