[Advice Needed] smartphone for my grandma!

Ey its Ozzy, and I need you guys.
My grandma bought a pc 2 years ago and went to school to learn how to use it..(lmfao, I fell down the chair when she told me she had a Facebook account, a pc).
Her birthday is nearing and we wanted to buy her a touch smartphone, tablet.
I've already found a used(perfect shape) iPad 2, 32gb +apple keyboard for 300€(not $).
I don't know how many people are invited, I approx know how much everyone will give(€) but the max budget is 600 total. So 300€ left for a smartphone.
I kept browsing and browsing these last days, I can't find something cheap, good.
My requirements;

-Front&Back camera.(5-8 MP)?
-300/350€ is the max budget.
-Has to be 'touch'.
-A smartphone that is easy to use. (ex: the gs3 would be too complicated for her to use, with all the widgets nd such,), she'd only use it to call us, read her mails, go on Facebook(lol again).
-NOT an iPhone.
-No need for a big GB/RAM but has to be 'easy' so no 'laggy' smartphones.(Some of my friends have weird phones, take 10 mins to open apps like temple run rofl).Has to be capable of the minimum.

Thank you!

Blackberries are easy to use.

What's wrong with an iPhone? If you're already getting her an iPad, it would be the perfect pair since she would only have to learn one UI. It also fits all your requirements quite comfortably (except the one which specifically excommunicated it. :sarcastic:).

They aren't 100% touch?
I want something 100% touch, with virtual keyboard.

The android phones offer much more for their price-quality.
Apple's iPad's & macs are nice, etc... But the iPhone prices are ridicoulous and so...still thinking about it too.

The fact your grandma has just learnt how to use one UI (Apple's) are you sure you want to put her through thst torture again? :P It may not seem so difficult for us to learn a new UI, but im sure its pretty damn annoying for the elderly.

I know you said not an iPhone, but I would play it safe and buy her an iPhone.

Totally agree, its just the thing that 1) she needs a new phone 2) need an ipad (facetime's pretty ez, amazin')
And IMO: having an iPhone and iPad is weird.(not for us) but in this case here. I totally agree with you too.

Hehe yeah, when your people like us who can easily adapt and find it interesting rather then torture when adapting to different interfaces and software, it would be wierd to just stick to one brand.

But im just thinking of the experience I had when trying to teach my grandma about the iPad, she bought one and she would not stop nagging me for weeks on how to use it. Dx

Funny is my grandma went to school to learn how to use a pc. I found that incredible. She never asked me anything lmfao. I just installed her all the anti-virus shiz and so. She doesn't give up untill she reaches what she wants. But she reads and writes slowly... And android devices are more sophisticated/professional then apple's.
And imo apple's UI is easy, as you said. That's right.

I'll keep looking if I find something exeptional, but for now my choice is iPhone 4/4s+ iPad 2. Both apple devices, to make it easier.

Get a Windows Phone.
The tile interface is incredibly simple. The tiles also have clear text and big number notifications so it'll be easy for your grandma to see. There isn't pages of apps or widgets like iPhone or Android. Just the tile page and the app list, thats all there is to it.
It also has Facebook chat built into the Messaging on the phone. The FB app itself is pretty crappy though, its slow and missing a lot of features. The email app is great though.
The Nokia Lumia line has low end and high end Windows Phones and they all have a quality and durable build so you don't have to worry about Granny dropping and breaking the phone.
I know all of this because I used a WP for a year before it bugged out on me.

I don't understand the logic of getting her an iPad though but condeming an iPhone.
It would make using iTunes and being able to have everything in sync.

The galaxy s3 is not complicated. There's a starter mode for it. I've seen inexperienced people use the phone, like old people.

Just get her a flip phone.

twilit 01-30-2013 03:32 AM

dont make fun of the vintages iHot>:0 i still have a slide-out keyboard phone
go with the iPhone4S. Apples are easier to use than Android crap and i just havent warmed up to Windows tile interfacing... to me its ugly.

Apple is easier? What? That's if you're used to it. Android actually comes with a beginner mode. Have you ever had an android?
