Jailbreaking a dying trend?

Dev Team is currently stuck on iOS 6.0.1 and says not to expect a jailbreak (untethered) for it any time soon. Pod2G has also said jailbreaking iOS 6 is near impossible. Installous was also completely shut down recently.

What does this mean for jailbreaking or for people who want to jailbreak who are currently stuck on iOS 6?

During the whole jailbreaking era, Android has been getting popular and broke through with major success thanks to the Galaxy S3.
I'm just wondering, why go through the hassle of jailbreaking when there's Android that's already open to anything offered by Cydia and more when rooted. Definitely not helping the case for jailbreaking an iDevice.

Also, whether people will admit it or not, pirating apps from Installous was a big factor in whether they wanted to jailbreak or not.
I can see developers losing faith and support for their apps/tweaks/whatever on Cydia if a new jailbreak isn't developed soon.

Obviously if you don't care about jailbreaking then it won't matter to you whether it dies or not, you'll still be happy with your Apple device :)

Well I wanted to jailbreak my iPhone for Installous, the emulator, and sbsettings.
I'm stuck on iOS 6....only a month before I can get my new phone T-T torture.

I'm nothing without my jailbreak i like it how u can customize your ipad but the dev's are still stuck on the A5 prosessors.

If you want to jailbreak, most people downgrade to 4.2.1 as thatbwas the most popular OS to jailbreak on. And you can get most of the stuff that is on iOS6 when yoyu jailbreak anyway :-)

Meh, shutting down installous doesn't bother me at all.
iAP cracker is big enough of a reason to jailbreak.
Free game in app purchases ftw

I jailbroke for the iFile..jk!

I used to jailbreak all of my devices simply because I wanted to pirate apps from Installous and get my hands on iFile, but considering the level of effort you have to put in to jailbreak it, and the time the developers are taking to come up with new jailbreaks it's not really worth the hassle anymore in my opinion. I've stopped jailbreaking my devices.

>Installous shut down

WHAT.

I just buy all my apps. I mainly use jailbreak for the tweaks. Except, I haven't jailbroken my iPod Touch 4G and it's on 5.1 and I really don't know if I want to jailbreak it anymore. I think it drained the life out of my other iPod.

All the tweaks and stuff took up a huge amount of memory anyway..

Like Jester, I only jailbroke for the GBA Emulator as well. If GPSPhone dies then so does jb.

I jailbroke my old device since I could use backgrounder, now that my new iTouch 4 has multi tasking, that isn't needed anymore.

Psycher! 01-02-2013 09:33 PM

I jailbroke my phone for two reasons. The tweaks that made things generally easier, and Installous. Now that Installous has been shut down, most of my reason for jailbreaking is gone. :'(
