Sad Fate for New Developers

It's such a shame. That only a handful of oldbie developers with such good skill remain quiet and humble.

And new developers these days, truly boastful in their abilities to the point of not being able to take criticism. Even with criticism or advice given, there is hardly any indication of it trying to be implemented. Not trying to downplay these new guys but there needs to be a change in perspective and a realization that one must always believe in the need for improvement and not be so complacent in making progress. Just because you work for a server (and BARELY contribute to it but act like you do), and your wearing the title of that server's name under your belt, acting like you hold some kind of administrative position, being praised by everyone else, always giving a comeback to critiques......

Just because you have a weapon at home, play Call of Duty and kill bad guys, does not make you a trained killer.

Just because you make levels, or make graphics doesn't make you an "artist".

"Oh but Rookie, u a nub cuz art is a form of self expression" says, Whiny Scrawny Bee-ATCH.

"No, BICH, dare say to a UFC fighter that scraps at school make you a fighter. Art means more than your pile of turd you manage to procure from your a-ss in which you have loosely labeled as 'effort'. Put effort into becoming better or at least produce something you can be proud of. Even as sucky as you are, then and only then you can claim yourself as an artist." says, Fkkn Epic Rookie.

That is all. Who wants to disagree and get their fkkn pathetic a-ss handed to them?

Are you.... talking to me? :c

TheRookie 12-01-2012 05:04 PM

No....

Just ask yourself how much of this applies to you.

Like, Do I actually contribute good work to server (or even just to myself if I'm not with a server)? Do I claim to have superiority and excellence in my development field? Am I trying get better and take consideration of advice for self-improvement?

If you answered Yes, No, and Yes...then you are safe my friend from being a "Poser"

I guess you are referring to iDevice development? Which I do not know much about, but.. surely not everyone is like the stereotype you described, right? There's always the bunch of developers who just don't (want to) get criticism. They're bound to fail, so don't worry. But there's also usually the bunch that improves, some faster than others. And you are an artist if you create graphics, and a designer if you create levels. It doesn't have to be an occupation, but in the case of developing stuff for Graal, it's usually a hobby, and that should be enough.

*da. Da means from, as he was from the town of Vinci. De would mean his father is a town.
How do I even know that?!

Anyway, have to spread rep. :( But is it referring to me...? I don't think so. I hope not.

As he said

Level design isn't all that different from pixel art. You're placing tiles on a grid in attractive ways to create and overall appealing picture.

Okay

I'm a developer, but I actually do agree with this. Some people who work on servers though, such as I, put 100% effort into their work and they work a lot.
