What era of rap do you like most?

I'm not going to say old school because there's so many interpretations of old school rap it's not even funny. I'll have to say mine was the mid to late 90s, I haven't enjoyed the late rap though, Drake and stuff lol.

Hard to put it into eras since hip hop is so young as a genre but the underground artists in the early to mid 2000s were really good and everyone obviously loves the old boom bap era. But there's a lot of good new stuff if you don't like trap (which I assume you mean when you say present day).

Could you elaborate more on some of this?

I mean trap is the big thing on the radio now but you've got a ton of other areas of hip hop that are releasing really good stuff. If you like instrumentals/experimental hip hop madlib, flying lotus, RJD2 have all been around for a while and are still putting out quality albums. If you want to go back to the boom bap, Joey Bada$$. Lyricism greats like MF Doom or if you're into little to no beat Milo. Anderson.Paak is bringing in his own brand. You have a lot of soul back in the late 2000s (Ex: The album a Piece of Strange). Too many artists for one post tbh. 90s were the golden age for hip hop because all of these sub genres were founded but now they're coming into their own.

Tumi +Chinese Man - Jungle Boogie (ex of **** that can bump without being trap)

Champion Sound (madlib + J-dilla) - React

Cunninlynguists - Beautiful Girl

lot of different sounds out there under the hip hop umbrella.

90's rap most definitely. I grew up listening to all of them. Rap music today wont ever go as hard as 90s.

You had some of the hardest rappers out there such as 2pac, Wu-tang, Rakim, The D.O.C., and so many more.

And the beef between rappers, or west coast vs east coast, produced some of the best diss songs ever.

All time favorite diss song has to probably be "Dollaz+Sense" by DJ Quik. He was dissing MC Eiht, basically ending mc eihts career.
