Switching from AMD to Intel
So I want to change my CPU from my current (AMD FX-6300) to an Intel CPU as I have gotten a GTX 970 graphics card a couple months ago. I am looking for the best motherboard and CPU that works with the 970 and my current setup.
My Specs here: CPU: AMD FX 6 Core 6300 3.5ghz HDD: Seagate 1TB GPU: MSi GTX 970 4GB MOBO: ASRock 960GM/U3S3 FX AM3+ RAM: 8GB Kingston DDR3 PSU: Thermaltake LitePower 600w SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD Don't really have a budget yet as I don't need them immediately but I don't want to spend too much. |

Intel i5 6500 - around 190$ to 200$ Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard - ~110$ Or for something cheaper MSI H110M Gaming Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard - ~60$ The gigabyte GA-Z170 mobo allows for more types of RAM so if you wanted to upgrade your RAM sometime in the future for whatever reason or you want faster than DDR4-2133, then it allows for it. The MSI mobo is cheaper but only allows for the DDR4-2133 RAM (you can use faster ram but because of the mobo limitation, the RAM will only run at 2133mhz so there would be no point in buying anything higher) Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory - ~45$ In my opinion I think you should wait til the new AMD Zen processors come out (rumored for Jan 17 2017) to buy a CPU as they could be something you would be interested in and if they are what they are hyped up to be, Intel would likely drop the prices on some of their processors if you still wanted to go with Intel |

I'm looking into the i5 range but can someone explain what the difference is between 6400, 6500, 6600 and 6600K?

The k at the end of the 6600 means its easier, and basically made for overclocking, but you would need a specific mobo in order to do so Like I said, i would recommend the 6500, in terms of gaming only, each processor gets about 5 more frames avg than the next. The 6500 give you the best performance for the amount of money spent. Sent from my LG-K550 using Tapatalk |
Get a K and learn to overclock, its really easy and will give you more mileage out of your CPU. You can find tons of tutorials on YouTube.
nvm, cpu wont be bottlenecking anytime soon |
Probs gonna go with the i5 6500 and for a mobo im gonna get an MSi h110m
