Money vs. Happiness

Well on friday we had an interesting question brought up in my English class it was... "You can be successful and insanely wealthy for the rest of your life or you can be happy and do what you enjoy, which would you choose and why?" I'm wondering what you think about this, also note that earning lots of money is not in the category of what you enjoy.

Tyler 08-12-2012 06:42 AM

If the money made me miserable or tried to buy happiness I wouldn't want to live that kind of life. I would just choose happiness overall.

MrSimons 08-12-2012 06:43 AM

The money won't make you sad unless you make it.

Wealth also has it's risks rather it's with relationships or some other formality. I'm not saying it's bad to be wealthy, but I would rather not.

It's not about money, it's about sending a message. Everything burns...

I'm pretty happy, but broke, so I picked money. Would be interesting to see how it would be to live filthy rich.

Jester Lapse 08-12-2012 07:08 AM

thing with money is you will get "friends" that backstab you to get some cash. Depending on the "rich" effect of the money, you may become a celebrity and we all know how fked up they become due to poparazzi/not getting time to themselves.

I would rather just enjoy the things I have and earn what I want. If something is just givin to you, you don't appreciate it as much.
Test: on christmas when your parents buy you something fancy, keep in mind how good you feel, then later on down the road when you have a job and buy something nice of your own, compare it. You will feel more accomplished and will more than likely take care of it more simply because you earned it.

+Money is the root of all evil.

MrSimons 08-12-2012 07:08 AM

I've always wondered what it would be like to have alot of money, it actually seems kind of unappealing to me, at some point having so much money sounds like it'd get rather bothersome.

money, but not too much of it.

DragonRider 08-12-2012 12:14 PM

Rich and try to keep a low profile. I can get my happiness from donating to charities :D

Pimpsy G. 08-12-2012 02:34 PM

Well, it depends on your situation. I would love to be an art teacher or something for the rest of my life, but lets face it if you have a family with children a job like that will not be very sustainable. So you have to also put in with money: the responsibility for others, that need a good environment for happiness, in your life.

HappyCat123 08-12-2012 03:36 PM

I'll take the cash.

Both really

Money is good in some ways,but still you need both of the,. Money come and goes fast in wanted times. While begin happy in stuff you should enjoy with your friends and famliy. Those things that where happy will last for long time. But money will come to you and be gone tomorrow.

V. 08-14-2012 06:11 PM

Happiness. If you're happy, why should money matter? Aside from the fact that you do need some money to live, but enough to live comfortably and ability to buy things if I wanted to would be great.
Also, if I choose happiness that doesn't mean I have to be poor right?
It'd be nice to have a bit of both, in my opinion, money sort of makes you happy, like imagine winning the lottery. There's a lot to consider, like what things you get that makes you happy, but overall, I'd choose happiness.

MattKan 08-14-2012 06:24 PM

Money = Freedom

Freedom = Happiness

This is just a dumb question, really. I'm not saying money = happiness, I'm saying that it can help you to live a happier life if you use it correctly.

Talon 08-14-2012 06:31 PM

Money = comfortable life = happiness, so I'll just take the happiness and not deal with the money.

IF you use it correctly, not a lot of people can use it correctly.

You hadn't noticed that yet? World domination is the way to go, as that way you rule the money, instead of just having it.

Turtotil 08-15-2012 06:01 AM

Money can't buy happiness. But it sure as hell can buy everything else.

Alexei 08-15-2012 08:35 AM

Happines.

Money is not the most important role of you'r life.To be honest,Happiness is the important role.We would just die without happiness :\

Talon 08-15-2012 08:50 AM

Whoever said "money can't buy happiness" obviously didn't know where to go shopping.

Jester Lapse 08-15-2012 08:51 AM

Try all the celebrities that are in rehab/need therapy lol. Only thing that separates them from us is money.

Talon 08-15-2012 08:57 AM

Money is far too powerful a motivator to indulge in unsavory action. As much as people hate to admit it or try to repress it, impurity of wealth is a fundamental element of human nature. Money brings that level of impurity to the surface. Money corrupts. Turns good people bad and bad people into something unspeakable. Unless they know where to go shopping.

Hadi 08-15-2012 09:09 AM

Money= happiness
happiness doesnt = money
problem?

Talon 08-15-2012 09:11 AM

What if your money goes towards too much drugs and you die/get depressed, though?

Stop spamming the forums with that garbage, it's just annoying. Although I guess it's an example on how money will corrupt you.

That wasn't an option.

Chaotic 08-17-2012 05:13 AM

Thought about this before. Money doesn't guarentee happiness. If I woke up everyday happy and content with my life, what would I need the money for when I have guarenteed happiness already.
