Best video game soundtrack?

So, as the title goes, what game has your favorite complete sountrack? This poll has the widest list of the best soundtracks I could come up with, if your game isn't on it, leave it in the comments. Personally I think Super Mario Galaxy has the best music.

Sharp Serenity 07-19-2012 02:25 AM

oh dinosmash does:O if you havent heard it download the lite version

Waffle 07-19-2012 02:42 AM

Skyrim had really good catchy music.

Talon 07-19-2012 02:59 AM

Xenoblade Chronicles had some of the saddest music I've listened to. Reminisce made me cry, even - but my vote is going to Halo; it had my most favorite and inspiring music I've listened to so far.

Any music made by Jeremy Soule. He did music for Guild Wars, and Skyrim. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EigjK...eature=related

Vindictus has the best soundtracks, period.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=weABV...feature=relmfu

Forsaken world also has amazing soundtracks that make up for the game itself being terrible.

Pokemon obviously.

Ace 07-19-2012 03:59 AM

Thallen 07-19-2012 04:53 AM

If we're talking about an entire series then it's Final Fantasy by far. Nobuo Uematsu is a god and if your opinion differ then you're wrong. For individual games, the Chrono Trigger soundtrack is amazing, same with FF7 and FF6.

I know, I cringe at remembering that theme. That game was my life from April 2009 to some time around late 2011.

Talon 07-19-2012 05:05 AM

Dinosmash was released in April 2009...

Rexx 07-19-2012 05:09 AM

Halo or the original login theme for Maplestory.

spades of feare 07-19-2012 06:02 AM

Definite tie between halo and mass effect.

Dusty 07-19-2012 06:16 AM

Shadow of the Colossus, but Bastion's is pretty damn awesome too. Mario and Zelda's and so are great too of course, but I gotta give a hand to an IP that can top/match a series of franchises who music has been great since they were conceptualized.

Prime games have good atmospheric music, but none of it has really stuck with me except for the Title screen of Prime and the load screen of Prime 2.

Engel 07-19-2012 07:57 AM

Halo. Halo all the way... That music just makes me feel I can take on the whole damn Covenant..

Talon 07-19-2012 08:34 AM

Regardless, you're right. Halo and C&C2's soundtracks both make me feel like taking on the world.

With a mouse and keyboard, of course.

Ash Ketchum 07-19-2012 10:15 AM

Wheres pokemon??

Talon 07-19-2012 10:22 AM

I love reminiscing with Pokemon music. That, and "Reminiscence - Music Box" on Xenoblade Chronicles.

Snowbreeze 07-19-2012 10:36 AM

Halo haves more votes than Mario and Zelda.
are u guys actually serious?

Talon 07-19-2012 11:22 AM

Knew the N64 elitists would come around and bash Halo at some point.

They're both great game series, to be fair (Ocarina was a great game, probably in my top three of all time). But to put things in retrospect, I thought the music composed for Halo was just brilliant, exciting and well-performed in its own way. It might not be a classic or a living legend of a game like Mario or Zelda, but why does that mean its music can't be enjoyable? I really wasn't too big a fan of the Mario soundtrack either. I found it rather boring and unexciting or inspiring. I really don't like the oldbies for hating on every aspect of a new generation game, as if they're offended that people like it. I still don't understand that, at all.

You obviously havent played any of the recent "Super Mario" games.

And to all the people asking "where is __________?!?" I can't make a perfect list as I have not played every single game and there's only a limit of 10 options. (9 if you count other)

Ash Ketchum 07-19-2012 01:13 PM

Galaxy games have some awesome music all around. People hear "Mario soundtrack" and think of the same old tunes from the old NES/SNES games and never realize that the newer Mario games are orchestrated masterpieces.

NCJohn 07-19-2012 02:24 PM

Where's Pokemon on the poll? Who could forget the lavender town theme song from the old Pokemon green and red? ;)

Tyler 07-19-2012 02:55 PM

Sonic has always had the best video game sound tracks in my opinion.

IMO Pokemon only has a handful of songs that are actually memorable, and that's kind of bad for a franchise as old as it is. Not to mention for a long time in any pokemon game the only song you'd ever hear was the bicycle tune.

spades of feare 07-19-2012 03:23 PM

Good job attempting to take a pretty decent thread and filling it with fanboy bull****. We have a poll, you voiced the fact that you like Halo's soundtrack, why slam it down everyone elses throats when they have their own opinion?

Lol I was joking, I only said that to refer to the lavender town tone hoax. IMO I think the Legend of Zelda series has had probably the best sound track.

Ash Ketchum 07-20-2012 01:00 AM

God, lavender town is scary as. they had to lower the tune down on the newer games.

Sure, you can find Halo music enjoyable, but you cant say its better than Mario or Zelda soundtrack, they are classics (as you said), it is almost a fact that those two are better

I'm sorry if my opinions clash with that of your self-generated "facts", but I still think that the Halo soundtrack was superior to those two. I apologize if it offends you, or you don't like it, but that's my opinion and I'm sticking with it.

"it is almost a fact that "
No it's nowhere close to a fact, it's purely opinion.

The reason people may like the Halo music so much is because the music is scripted with the events that happen in the game, kind of like a movie. It adds more depth and feeling overall to the player.
You may like the Mario or Zelda music simply for the tune and you just plain out enjoy it. See? It's just opinion and preference.

Yeah, I still don't understand why a game's title affects the entertainment value and appeal of music; perhaps nostalgia plays a part in it, I don't know. I don't have a problem with you preferring the Mario and Zelda soundtrack over Halo's, but when you say you prefer it just because it came from those games bothers me. You can't justify your liking of a soundtrack just because it came from a certain game.
