Boy Scouts

Well in Wafer's "Is Graal flat" thread he brought up him being in Boy Scouts. I am too and I'm wondering if anyone else is/was in Boy Scouts.

Ace 07-10-2012 05:01 AM

NCJohn 07-10-2012 05:12 AM

me ._.

Wafers 07-10-2012 05:22 AM

Of course I am. Thank you for bringing this up. I will say, some are afraid to admit their membership to Boy Scouts, and some will tell you a story completely different than mine. I believe and my story, and if anyone else would like to elaborate more on that subject of what the benefits of being a Boy Scout (and maybe Eagling) are, I would be more than happy to allow you to.

I basically said that it helps with career choices, job/college applications, and life in general. You become a better person through this program.

MrSimons 07-10-2012 05:30 AM

I actally think some of the stuff is pretty fun, mainly the hiking. I am actually going to Philmont on Friday :o

I've heard that Philmont is cool. I've never been though. I was just at Camp Orr in the third week of June.

DragonRider 07-10-2012 05:34 AM

I was for 2 weeks. Then it it disbanded :(.

MrSimons 07-10-2012 05:36 AM

It took me a year to realize my troop was large compared to others, we have 90 something scouts.

I haven't heard very much about Sea Base, what is it exactly?

Wafers 07-10-2012 05:45 AM

My Troop only has 9 active members, 16 total. We have a small troop.

iSilver 07-10-2012 05:51 AM

no, when I was old enough to be capable of boy scouts I saw them as snooty rich kids. That isnt 100% true, though.
I was just more tougher then most of them, theyd carve I'd being playing football.

I play football and so do a lot of the people in my troop. Your perspective was a bit off :/

You go down to key largo in Florida and you sail around the keys for a week. You get to go fishing, snorkeling, ect. I did it last summer.

Im in troop 223. Windermere Fl, we have like 25 scouts in our troop. Im a star scout going for eagle! Maybe you guys have met my troop before :O

HappyCat123 07-10-2012 03:37 PM

I do Boy Scouts. I like how all my friends that do it too are SOOOOOOOOO bad at cooking. The worst part is that that's what your going to be eating in a little.

Also I suck at swimming.

Imprint 07-10-2012 03:51 PM

Yuck, boy scouts. I don't think an organization based on "raising" youth should have such close religious affiliation and close minded ideals. Also, the anti-gay policy isn't something I support. Boy Scout opportunities were never something I wanted to be a part of.

All anti gay policy is on paper only if you know what i mean, im an atheist that just worked at camp. There were 3 gay staffers. And any other religion views come from the church the troop is based outta

Religion is basically optional. And sexuality is basically dont ask dont tell/ tell who you can trust.

Well, me being straight and all, I wouldn't want a gay kid getting any ideas when we're sleeping in a tent together on a camping trip. Just saying...

Imprint 07-10-2012 04:44 PM

You two are both prime examples of whats wrong with this ****ing nation. Don't ask, don't tell? Why do you want to opress people into hiding their sexuality. Thats ****ing ridiculous that you even suggest that there's nothing wrong with that. People should be open withthere sexuality.

Also, are you that ****ing stupid that you think a gay man will want to **** you just cause you're in a tent with him. That's like saying I shouldn't go camping with my friends who are girls because I'll **** them in their sleep. You are both idiots and should rethink the **** you're being fed.

Go climb philmont then we will talk, i have no issues with sexuality is, but the truth is that for everything out there there IS (no exeptions) someone that despises it. And to have a sucessful organization, the customer is always right. All people do is avoid telling the people who hate gays.
A non gay relig example is: i recently got into MTG and so i was setting up a camp wide unoffiial mtg fightclub/ tornement, well all that had to become staff only because the troop from the church of the laterday saints hates anything magical ex. Harrypotter and mtg.

And on a side note, thats not opressing. Thats neutrality.

I have no problems with your first paragraph. People should have the right to be open about their sexuality. I may not agree with them being gay, but they are entitled to think what they are going to think.

If I am close friends with a gay kid and I am sleeping in a tent with him, I trust him. But there are some kids that I do not trust in the slightest. If they were gay, and very suspicious in my eyes, I wouldn't really trust them sleeping in a tent with it. I would try to avoid being in a tent with them regardless of there sexuality if they seemed suspicious to me. Just because I do not approve of your thinking doesn't mean I hate you. Just because I'm a Republican means I hate all my Liberal friends? No.

If you are friends with the girl you are camping with, no dip you're not going to **** her. What I mean is I don't want to be in a tent with some random gay kid that just joined my troop and I don't really know yet or trust. If you were a girl, would you want to go camping with some random creepy guy you don't know?

I am entitled to my opinion. If you disagree with it, which it seems very obvious you do, you have the right to think differently. If you've read all this stuff I've written, and you don't have anything more to say, could a mod please delete these posts, for they are off topic from what this thread was meant to be about.

The customer isn't always right when it involves oppressing a group of people. YES, it is oppression because people are not allowed to be open about who they are. Switch out sexuality with race. If black people weren't allowed to join the Boy Scouts it would be considered oppression but apparently when sexuality is the issue its the company pandering to the customer because "they are right".

P.S. Climbing a mountain does jack **** to any opinion and it obviously hasn't made you any more intelligent.

Close religious affiliation and close minded ideals? I honestly don't know what you"re talking about, there is a wide variety of religions in scouting, I have seen mormans, Christians, Jews, Catholics, and atheists. As for close minded ideals, that isn't close to what scouting believes in. It is an organization to teaches you life skills? How is that close minded. As for the anti-gay policy, that was recently taken down and gays are fully allowed in scouts as long as they don't preform any "sexual acts" on another scout, which I believe is completely reasonable.

I'm fine with meetings. I like merit badge courses at camp, but not outside of summer camp. New Scouts are sorta annoying since you have to teach them what to do since they were not around when we had the troop guides.

Most of the time on hikes me and like one or two friends just slow down for a bit so that we can just be behind the group and not have to bother with anyone else. Or is your troop the kind that makes everyone stay together xD

we try to, but we are a backpacking troop so we tend to have bigger hikes and it's difficult to keep everyone together.

Yeah the uniform sucks. When I moved into the US my parents made me go into it. I got my eagle because apparently.it looks good on a resume. But ever since I got my eagle I've never had a thing to do with scouting. Haha I'm not going to give my honest opinion about scouts or getting your eagle because being negative is so.. not positive. So have fun and work hard! Cheers!

You have a very skewed view on life if you want to bang anything with two pairs of lips. Also, you state that girls will not go with some random creepy guy so you are automatically labling the gay kid as creepy, hmm...

Plus posts have no reason to be deleted. This thread is about boy scouts and we shared our opinions on Boy Scouts.
