Do you name your Pokemon?

I was playing Pokemon Black today and some woman offered to trade my Cinccino for her Munchlax. I had never heard of either Pokemon until that point, but to make matters worse she kindly gave this new Pokemon the nickname of 'Gorge'. This reminded me that I've NEVER used nicknames for any of my Pokemon in any Pokemon game that I've played. In fact, I'd go as far as to say I hate it when I have a Pokemon with a nickname.

I've always been curious about the other side though, so do you give your Pokemon in-game nicknames? If so, why?

Dusty 06-26-2012 06:27 AM

No, and I don't like when commentors/youtubers do it either. Makes it very hard to know(especially in this day and age with 500+ pokemon) exactly what pokemon they are...

Fireenn 06-26-2012 06:29 AM

I choose not to. I remember buying a used pokemon game when I was like 8 and all the pokemon has very inappropriate nicknames, and I got in trouble cause my mom thought I named them that lol

Rexx 06-26-2012 06:31 AM

I don't, it doesn't seem right.

Twinny 06-26-2012 06:33 AM

I do and it always seems to involve generic, **** names across all the games (and their saves) that I play. My first electric pokemon will be called, "Sparky": Thats the kind of lameness i'm talking about.

I stop doing it after the 8th time or so though.

Higbey 06-26-2012 06:36 AM

I would sometimes give my favorites epic names, was never into making in appropriate names. I remember in ruby making my Pokemon have different names then using them in contests and getting interviewed and setting up everything just so I could record when I go on the news in game and get it to make a innuendo or something funny.

I also named some of the Pokemon i breeded to distinguish them appart. I remember having like a box filled with pichus and absols trying to get a certain breeded move.

Seeker99 06-26-2012 06:40 AM

Charizard: D***-Slap
Fearow: Mr. Fappy
Rattata: F***Face

I only name my pokemon so I can give them obscure names and laugh.

Jester Lapse 06-26-2012 06:43 AM

No, too much effort lol

Ace 06-26-2012 07:03 AM

I prefer the defaults

Maxy 06-26-2012 07:35 AM

defauls are better and less confusing n the long term.

John 06-26-2012 07:38 AM

I only named my pikachu because he's the only pokemon I took with me in most of my games.

Tyler 06-26-2012 07:42 AM

When I first played Pokemon Gold I named my Tyranitar "Hunkabib".

Well aren't you a regular Ash Ketchum.

Talon 06-26-2012 07:49 AM

Every time I named any of my main Pokemon, I would regret it later and have to shell out another ~5k (can't remember) to change it back about 3/4th of the way through the main story, when it's already a Lv.65 Charizard named 'Flamey' or something stupid.

iWarp 06-26-2012 07:52 AM

Named my rival Asswipe. I named myself ******, just so I can laugh when my rival walks away an says "Later, ******!"

Now that pokemon have the nice icons in the menus so that you can actually tell which ones which, I'm fine with it. I name mine random stuff sometimes, but sometimes I just don't name them. I hate when people name them stuff in Blue/Red/Yellow, since you have to go into the summary menu just to see which ones which.

Skyzer 06-26-2012 04:13 PM

I never used to name them when I was a kid, but I tend to name them more often now.

Higbey 06-26-2012 04:44 PM

all the names i named mine would sound like alien names or mythical beasts, or a play on the default name, i never named them like a pet. then again, my pet names arent normal pet names anyway.

DragonRider 06-27-2012 04:38 AM

My brother named my rival BUTT in FireRed but that was because I was in preschool and he was in 2nd Grade. We thought it was funny.
Anyways, I've named it since the beginning.

I got mad at my brother so I started a new game and named his starter 'poop'. That was a while ago when we played... I don't rename my Pokemon by the way.

Imprint 06-27-2012 01:21 PM

eric 06-27-2012 01:49 PM

Kiko 06-27-2012 03:58 PM

Higbey 06-27-2012 04:06 PM

i love how you take a god of these people, a mythical creature that they consider a god, and you trap it in a little ball and force it to fight for you, and you call it fire fart.

Cat612 06-27-2012 04:12 PM

I named my Pokemon on Fire Red when I was younger, and have regretted it ever since. I don't name them anymore.
