Trading Concept #2: Player-Hosted Shops

It's been a month and a bit since the last trading concept video.

While the previous video demonstrated how players can trade items with each other directly with on-the-go trades, there would always be the problem that both players must be online at the same time in order to be able to trade items.

Enter player-hosted shops. With this feature, players can put inventory items, furnitures, even custom graphics on sale in their own little store that everyone can access and browse. Items can be sold at a set price, or even as an auction.

Here is the video of this:

A shop typically consists of three parts:
-The main page, similar to a guild page
-The items page, where items for sale are listed
-The log, recording all transactions and only visible to the shop owner

When a player opens the game's main menu, they can access a new "My Store" button, which will take them to their shop's main page. From there, they can set the shop's display image as well as the welcome text. At the bottom of the page, there are buttons to access the items list and the log.

In the items list, players can review items they have put up for sale, as well as either remove them or add more. When a player adds an item, it is removed from their inventory. They can set a price for the item (in the case of an auction, the starting bid price) as well as a sale period (up to 14 days). If an item is not sold or bidder upon when the sale period ends, then it is returned back to the player's inventory.

When an item is sold from your store or you have won an auction, you will receive a push notification, and there is also an option to receive a notification when someone bids on one of your items or if you are outbid on an item. (these two notifications can be disabled for convenience purposes)

All-in-all, here are two ideas for in-game trading:
-Exchanging items with a player directly
-Selling your items in a store that can be accessed anywhere at any time

Looks realy awesome :D
sad that stefan is not loking there in this forum :(

DRAN 06-21-2012 07:48 PM

This is a REALLY good idea. I know it's a long shot, but it would be amazing to see this implemented.

Madhog 06-21-2012 10:58 PM

add this

D-Vader 06-21-2012 11:05 PM

Midori, your trading concepts are genius, and would be a great addition to the game.

itsbao93 06-22-2012 12:21 AM

Sounds like a simple free market idea. Many games have this, I don't see why not for this. Then again, you have to think about it... What really is there to really trade or sell? Only thing that is any worth is rare items.

twilit 06-22-2012 06:54 AM

*applaudes* *whistle* Midori youve done it again! amazing work!

The game won't have it because it wouldn't be a good business decision by Eurocenter. The way the game works now, money is spent in shops and disappears in exchange for a hat/item which means it's gone forever and players need to work/buy gralat packs to get more. If there is trading then money will circulate throughout the playerbase instead of being spent on shops. Also, people won't go to any old shops because the same item from that shop would be cheaper when buying it from a player. So, less irl money spent in game.

Sorry to be a negative nelly but this will never happen, it gives graal a sort of economy which then makes people not have to buy gralat packs as much. Less profit for the owners. All they want is to make money

That has nothin to do with it, you are basing cost of an entire balancing from the profit system on a simple free market idea. The only thing here that can seem off is... Why have a free market? A graal under economy is definietly no ready. What is there to buy from other players? Only thing is rares, not many people have them yeah, and not many people are going to sell them either. I graal had a wide range of say... Quest, monsters with rare drop rates for cool stuff then yeah maybe. I am not even considering many other factors. This is a good idea, but maybe not for classic ATM. A simple trade is a maybe, I don't see anything wrong with that. A trade system might even encourage more profit, you never know...

I don't see how the phrase "think before you do, don't do before you think" is relevant here.

Think before you act seems to be the more common phrase.

I absolutely love this idea!
Me and my friend are praying for this update - we already promised if the trading system comes out, we are trading my mask with one of his hats >:3

Yes! Great work!

ZyKo 06-28-2012 06:58 PM

I would pay £2.99 for this as an in-app purchase!

Around $5 USD, I think.

Psycher! 06-29-2012 05:20 PM

This is an absolutely amazing idea. As for the questions for what to sell, perhaps players could buy and sell house furniture at reasonable prices, and while people would have a good market off rares, it most likely wouldn't be the only thing being sold.

D-Vader 06-29-2012 05:28 PM

The only problem with this is I think there needs to be a price cap for items that are still on sale. For example, someone shouldn't be able to sell one of the 2,500 Gralat horses for 4,000. Because some like 8 or 9 year old who doesn't know how to get to the stables might think that's the true price of the horse and buy it for that price. Later, that same player will come across the stables and see that the price of the horse was only 2,500. Now we have a younger player who's going to be running around the map yelling "ADMENS!!!!! I NEEEEEED YOR HLP PLEEEEEESE!!!!!!!!!!!! IIII WUZ SCAMEDDDDDD!!!!"

This seems like a necessary limitation, as some people will probably fall for it. If it's no longer sold and super rare, it's justifiable.

Maybe in item-view mode, the game will display either "Current store price: #Gralats", or "No longer available in stores". This lets players know if an item is in limited supply or not and also if they can find a better price in other stores.

I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but perhaps when a player is browsing for an item, a list of of prices for said item could appear, plus the store price, so the player can look for the best price.

That would work.
