Hey guys, I'm providing you this little technique a friend showed me to make a nice little modern background in less than three minutes. You'll need an image manipulation program, specifically Photoshop or
GIMP. If you don't have either, you can download (for free, no trial) GIMP 2.8 at http://www.gimp.org. You don't even need to know how to use it skillfully, save the very basic rudiments of the program. Without further ado, let's begin.
~~~~~~
1. Open up a blank canvas for either a guild picture/avatar/desktop background. Fit the canvas accordingly.
- Guild Pictures: 425 x 425
- Avatars: 320 x 320
- Desktop Background: stfu
2. Right click, and go to Filters -> Render -> Clouds. Have black as the background color, and white or light gray for the foreground color. It should look like this:
3. Right click, and go to Filters -> Pixelate -> Mosaic. Set the pixel/cell size to 15 and hit go. You should be here.
4. Go to Filters -> Stylize -> Find Edges.
5. Do a radial blur by going to Filters -> Blurs -> Radial Blur. Set the amount to 35, and the mode to zoom. It should look like this.
6. Do another Filters -> Stylize -> Find Edges.
7. Press CTRL+i to invert the colors, or do Image -> Adjustments -> Invert.
8. Now add colors by either gradient mapping for multiple coloring
or go to Image -> Adjustments -> Hue/Saturation and Colorize it for monotone coloring.
9. As always, +rep me if this guide helped you out, feel free to experiment with it and use it for other purposes like overlay layers/scanline alternatives. Thanks all.
