Role Play illegal?

Well recently I was chilled by the burger refuge and noticed an obvious lack of players, so I went asking round about why no one was on... The answer was they were banned for role playing. Now that's a pretty ridiculous ban reason to me, and this needs to stop. I don't see what the problem with role play is, it's not harming anyone.

Tyler 05-19-2012 06:17 AM

I think it's stupid lol. Asking for dirty roleplay I can understand, but asking for roleplay normally is a bad ban reason. For a month is harsh too. Some people actually do want to roleplay normally. I think it's fine if they ask to roleplay on the server. My question is does everyone get to see this rule? What if someone was offline or afk?

LiA 05-19-2012 06:23 AM

Roleplaying should be fine, considering this game is a MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Play Game). I think it is pretty messed up how players can get banned for RP, especially the new players that just joined Classic iPhone.

Nyx 05-19-2012 06:23 AM

Graal was not made to have virtual sex, there is website for that, thats a valable ban reason.

Not everyone is offering that kind of roleplay though. Lia brought up an excellent point that iClassic is a roleplaying game itself.

It's not just innapropriate role play, I saw a guy just asking if any one wanted to role play and he was banned for it.

The Graal Police are supposed to handle any roleplay that ends up in a sexual way anyways if it is reported or seen. I don't understand why this rule is being put in place. Can't the Graal Police do their jobs and take care of the dirty roleplay?

LiA 05-19-2012 06:37 AM

Well, it's not like people are gonna have babies or get raped irl just by roleplaying on Graal. Let these kids do whatever they want. It's a game. I would get it if they banned someone for constantly sexual harassing a certain player for hours/days though. Just don't go banning all the players from Burger Refuge & etc for offering "sex". It's ridiculous. I honestly think anything is fine on Graal as long as they're not boosting, harassing, hacking or glitching off map(maybe more things but I can't think atm o_o)...

That's true, but what's to stop someone from inviting another into their house and doing dirty roleplay? They don't have to advertise it in the city. What I'm getting at is if the RP rule is put in place it won't end the dirty roleplay that goes on. It will just take away the ability for people to do advertise normal roleplay and some advertising dirty roleplay.

I don't nessasarily agree with that, sure if they are begging for virtual sex action should be taken, after all it's a kids game. But going around and just banning all role players isn't really the right way to handle things.

I agree with that. They could be banned a month for advertising normal roleplay too. I think 8 hours for the first offense is reasonable for dirty roleplay.

Because it should be a safe environment for children. People shouldn't be saying/doing stuff like that.

It is, but the RP rule isn't going to end it. I would think the Graal Police would be able to catch the sexual roleplayers easier if they were advertising it in the city. This rule will just get people to avoid it and invite others into their house and do it anyways.

I haven't heard anything about this "rule", so I can't really say much about it at the moment. I'm sure there's a slight misunderstanding though. The term "role-players" was probably referring to people doing inappropriate things.

Higbey 05-19-2012 07:18 AM

A month is too long. Unless you know they are doing dirty rp, you can't just assume,

As for people with the sexual gps or the erotic selfshots in skimpy clothing saying "rate gp", disband their guild.

Honestly it's the internet. The kids playing it isn't a excuse. Kids are on the Internet, is the Internet supposed to make itself suitable for kids? No, that's the parents job. There is a reason games say "online interactions not rated by ESRB".

Just because a majority do sexual rp doesn't mean they all do, make a rping center or something, you made a adoption center, you made a schoolhouse, make a rp place and just warp anyone saying stuff about wanting to rp to it.

If it is sexual, look into it. If you don't have proof you can't ban for It.

You need to have someone look at Julius's ban history and undo it. A month for rp is too harsh. This isn't club penguin. You are supposed to be over 13 to play. I like the idea of cleaning out the scum, but now that I hear he gave month long bans and didn't only target dirty rp I've got a bone to pick with him.

Who says we assume? Everytime i see someone say "Anyone wanna RP?" i check there pms. Almost everytime it is extremly inapropriate stuff. Not to mention that most of the time it isnt as simple as "Who wants to RP?" Its more like "Any hot girls between the ages of 10-18 wanna RP?" (im sure they want to Play Dungeons and Dragons with those girls correct?

The 1 month ban reason is there for a reason. We also go to special mesures to insure the ban time is for the correct reason.

You cant forget that there are young children playing the game too. The parents might not even know what there children are doing on graal. Im sure though if they knew that there kids were being asked for "RP" they would not be allowed to play the game anymore.

If you want to do those kinds of things, go find anothere site. While your at it say hi to Chris Hansen for me.

You will only be banned for "dirty roleplay" you can adopt and such all you want.

MattKan 05-19-2012 05:24 PM

I highly doubt that anyone roleplaying themselves as a chef/cook/costumer would get banned for doing so. Chances are they were doing something more inappropriate and got caught. Surprisingly taking the word of the person(or friend of someone) who was banned isn't going to get you the most reliable/unbiased info.

Rexx 05-19-2012 06:45 PM

It's for peoples safety, most likely. It's a bunch of kids playing, and after the horror stories of the **** that goes on with UN it's no surprise they want to avoid that sort of thing.

I understand the dirty roleplay part because its happening in-game messages, but whats wrong with asking people to chat on skype? I think if the person is not outright saying its dirty or even implying it, then it should be okay to do.

MattKan 05-19-2012 06:55 PM

I imagine this problem came from somewhere, not just the staff randomly thinking "hey, it's make a rule against asking for skype!" This is giving staff the benefit of the doubt, though. Chances are people walk around, asking random people to add them on skype/msn or something and then proceed to initiate something inappropriate(either sending hacks/video chat or something). If you do want to talk to someone outside of Graal and you've established some of communication already, I don't imagine they'll be watching your PMs so just PM them to add you there.

I suspect this has way more to do with randomly spamming random players to add them then talking to a friend and saying "oh ya, you can contact me here ____."

There isn't a problem with you giving your Skype to some friends. It's a different story when you are advertising it to potential predators and there are some questionable motives behind it.

Higbey 05-19-2012 09:20 PM

So basically staff are just randomly picking players that roleplay and looking at their private messages incase they are doing something sexual. Yep. It's reached club penguin status. You've got a bunch of teenagers, a marriage system, and the anomity of the internet. What the hell do you think is going to happen? Stay out of peoples personal lives. All you are doing is making the situation worse. Sure the ones that are saying sexual stuff should be punished, but this is just creepy. I don't want staff reading my messages without just cause.

Basically, advertisers should be given little bans. You can ruin the game by glitching in towers and get banned for less than you can for something that the game brought on itself and can't possibly stop without censoring and ruining it till it feels like a little kiddy game.

Players under 13 aren't supposed to even play. It's their parents job. You've got far more important problems to deal with than this, and a one month ban is just bloody ridiculous

Everyone sees Role Play in bold correct? Thought so.

Yes, the idea in this context seems extremely noob-ish, but its just a game. Take away the thing that makes you move up/down repeatedly w/ reaching arms whenever you are running into walls (or running into the front side of other players...)
