Toughest Optional Boss in RPG
 

Every RPG game (not counting MMO's) has a tough Optional boss that takes time to beat. What is the toughest optional boss you have face? Discuss

Sephiroth from Kingdom Hearts.

Well in Zelda Skyward Sword it was pretty tough to beat all of the bosses one after the other.

They not optional though o.o

He was easy in KH2 but there tougher opponents then him

I agree with Dusty. I spent hours fighting that asshole. Literally, hour after hour. That is by far the hardest optional boss I have ever fought.
Kingdom Hearts version, not II.

But now, he is easy compared to the other optional bosses in Kingdom Hearts

We're talking about the Sephiroth from the first KH. Even if he's easy in the second that doesn't make his original any easier.

However I haven't played that far into KH2, so I'm not aware of any other optional bosses that are harder than Sephiroth.

I'm just not sure what you're implying. That because Sephiroth appeared in the second one and was easier, that is not a hard optional boss? Because regardless of if they nerfed him down in the second, the first one is still a huge bitch to kill.

Now if you're saying the optional bosses in the second are harder than Sephiroth is in the first, that's an entirely different thing.

Those two don't compare to Kingdom Heart's (First one) Sephiroth. The Terra one was ridiculous. You don't get teammates against Sephiroth in the first KH like in that battle with Terra.

The Mysterious figure has the laser balls of death, but that only happened once. After that it didn't look at all as hard as a fight with Sephiroth. Did you ever play the first KH? If so, did you fight Sephiroth? You have to constantly avoid the mofo as well as be ridiculously high in level to keep on par with him.

Aside from just looking at the bosses, you have to look at the differences in KH1 and KH2. KH2 looks (can't say feel since I've never played KH2) a lot easier.

Not to mention he frequently spams his 1HKO move ;)

Which is why I have to agree with you 100%. :P I use to think the Sand Crab/Lobster thing was hard, but then I started to take on Sephiroth, and got my ass handed to me time and time again. I think I must have tried to kill the mofo at least 60+ times which is why I know the theme so well. I've only ever beat him once. :'(

And the KH2 seperoth was equally impossibly hard as the KH1 version

-goes and tries to find my KH disk -because idk if its 2 or 1 i think 2 and he still had a 1HKO

Mysecond hardest was probably cooler from one of the DBZ gameboy SP games.

I had a strategy to beat him (thanks to my KH sources)
Plus there still some optional bosses i havent beat due to their one hit kill

Seperoth is the only one hit kill boss in any game ive ever played, and yeah... Try taking him on without some elaborate strategy.

Sephiroth can create one hit kills without equiping the right abilities, but the optional bosses i havent beaten have one hit kill without no way to dodge

For the one I know of in an RPG game I'd say the last dragon boss in Skyrim. I forget his name.

Yeah, you don't have to do the main quest which is the one he's on. I went through a lot of the game without even continuing that quest lol.

Eh? No, as far as I remember no matter what you equip you're gonna die. At least, it brings you down to 1hp and NO mana(meaning no healing), so you have to have plenty of elixirs ready. Also, as soon as he uses black harvest he swoops in for a sword attack(remember his range ;)).

If it's part of the main quest it is not optional. Everything else is optional.

One hit kill= An attack that bring you to 0 HP without a combo

Main quest is optional but is THE MAIN QUEST, alduin is invalid tyler.

It's been a long time since I've played Kingdom hearts. I don't recall if you have to wear a specific accessory that stops his 1HKO and lets you survive with 1hp or if it's simply a combo attack. Either way, because of his battle style you have to react FAST to prevent him from killing you almost instantly.

I honestly don't remember since I haven't played the game in months.

I guess in a way it isn't optional since you have to do it at the start of the game anyways, but you can play the game itself without having to do the rest of it.

Yeah, if you didn't have to do it at all in the game I would consider it optional, but I just remembered the beginning of the game is part of the main quest which is mandatory. My bad.

But still, most people mention that sephiroth as the toughest, that aint right :/

It's right, make sure you take note of how we're mentioning Kingdom Hearts' Sephiroth. :P

Than again, i do admit he was tough, but doesnt compare to other bosses like Culex was one of them

Never played much into Super Mario RPG(googling 'Culex' led me to that). I also hope you know this entire discussion is an subjective one, so please don't sit and dismiss peoples entries because you don't feel they were difficult. It's all opinion, and in order for this to be a productive discussion you should respect other opinions.

As for as jRPG/traditional RPG bosses, in my limited expertise I'd say you'd have a had time topping these:

I grinded the HELL out of FFX, got all of the ultimate weapons, beat the Ultima and Omega weapons... and still did not get very far in the Monster area.

You have a point my bad, but is just i kinda hear his name most of the time which is annoying as he is not the toughest one. Although, I also made this thread not only to know players opinions but also, to introduce players other bosses, which it seems i was able to introduce Culex XD

But it's still all opinion. What makes your opinion about Culex being harder than Sephiroth any more valid?

In fact, what's the point of this entire thread if you created it solely to dismiss anyone's opinion as "wrong" when they don't agree with yours?

People play games differently, thus people will have different experiences. Now clearly someone who has no experience playing RPGs, trying on Omega Weapon with underleveled characters will have less weight behind their opinion. However, I feel you're coming on way too biased to make this a productive discussion at all.

All of the bonus towers in Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light had your temp party members/allies from different parts of the game as bosses. Some of them were brutally difficult.
