Would you bother to give us more information about your new server?

Well, we are 100% percent sure we are buying it, but we cant really do anything unless we have a tileset.

Even if I did want to apply, I sadly don't have gold.

So you don´t have the server yet? And you should plan what you want to do and what you want to reach before you are even going to buy it. And than you can worry about the tileset. Just a little tip since a lot of servers are going nowhere because the owners just don´t know what they actually want to do.

We Know what we are doing. We are buying the server in about 1 month from now. We know how to run a server, considering we've worked for other in the past.

A tileset is alot of work, I highly doubt someone would make you one for free...

Ya but think about it. The people who made era tileset are are GFX Artists, and they didn't get paid. Think about it. And btw, they are only helping make it, i started it already a bit.

Show us what you got so far please MSM.

Who's the manager?

Face it your server is most likely going to fail.. You haven't provided enough information about your server.. Who works there? What style of server is it?
What does the tileset need to look like?
Some images of what you have done so far would be nice also..
I can create some tiles, just shoot me a pm.

You cant compare that. Era is like 8 years old already and they also don´t have a full tileset yet. It´s rather based on NPCs.
If you start like that you wont get far.

Also you still did not tell us what your server is about. And now dont say it will be like iEra, Zodiac, .... . Give us exact explanations and what you really want to do. How should people know if they are even interested?

lol. sorry. So the server is a futuristic server, but not like zone at all. Its looked at from a perspective. Like say from 1990-2012, nothing really changed, right? Its like that. Everything changed, but not so major that its a huge difference.

Apparently MSM is the Co-Manager, Dev Admin, And Jr. LAT Admin. What a guy, holding three positions!

What the heck is a "Jr LAT Admin?"

An invented staff position just like "Co-Owner".. either you own it or you dont. But this seems like something between a "Trial LAT Admin" (lol) and a "LAT Admin".

Most likely you will not read this, but here goes.

Listen, I am not trying to ruin your dreams, but I want to be honest with what a lot of people aren't telling you. And I will give you some examples as well of course...

It is pretty fun toying with servers, playing with staff tools, and even developing, however most people who pay for servers (which I feel is a great waste of money) quit after 4-6 weeks. Some people get even more dedicated and may even last about 6 months.

I don't know the exact statistics so these are off the top of my head..

It is VERY hard finding the right people to help you, and if you give just anyone rights to everything on the server, you can expect someone to ruin it purposefully or accidentally. I.e.: Deleting all your files, replacing a level by accident, or wiping everything for enjoyment.

Thor has been developing Classic for 5+ years, and he is an amazing programmer. He has paid someone to create a logo for the server, and has a few other great team members. His server isn't even hosted... (He also does not want it to be until it is completed)

After coming back a years ago I've worked on petty servers like Dev Twaina, Dev Astram, and finally Frontier, someone else who is a pretty good programmer and has been doing everything him self for almost two years... (he stopped the project) and as far as I know, the other two servers are gone.

I'm not telling you to not develop, nor saying you can't do it, but the odds are against all new servers, and it IS a waste of money. Think about it before you go into this MSM.

You might think that I'm against you or something, but I'm really trying to get you to look at the big picture... I'm not saying it couldn't happen, but most servers don't get anywhere, you will probably feel overcome with work needed to be done, and stop developing for it in a few months. Save your money..

Aeon and Maloriam both good looking servers, have gone hosted and classic, respectively, and they aren't on the hosted or classic tab any longer.. There really isn't much chance unless you happen to come into a lot of old things to use...

This ultimately describes how it is no walk in the park developing and maintaining an un-hosted server. Fair call. +rep<3

You're stupid. Thor's Classic is two years old, not five. The server will most likely never be completed. We want enough content to hold a player count before we go Classic, not Hosted.

AEON and Maloria don't have enough content to be on Classic. AEON will probably never be anywhere close to going Classic because it is essentially four servers.

I don't recall saying he wanted to go hosted, only that he was not hosted, and I'm almost sure he told me five to six. o.O

So David, I see what you mean. I know, it will never be the greatest server of all time. But we have really talented people that are skilled in the areas they are working in. The server will just be a fun thing to do.

There is more behind new features and updates on other servers. I'm sure it isn't always fun scripting and making levels. Sometimes it can be another chore. But what do I know? It is your money, do what you want with it. However take into account these warnings highlighted in this thread. They are extremely valid if you want to make a successful server for others to enjoy. Personally if I wanted to muck around and have fun using RC I would go on the testbed server. The choice is yours..

Dont rush into things without considering the downsides of the project.

Well, we plan on putting it onto other platforms/consoles, but that is highly secret.
