Did anyone buy a PSVita?
I'm really curious to see if anyone purchased one, and what they think about it.
I've been watching some review videos, and am pretty unimpressed, but I still want to try playing one before I just right out bash Sony... But I just can't see myself actually buying one ever. xD The system itself costs 250$, which isn't horrendous. The 3DS was originally 250. But the PSVita has its own propriety memory card... A 16GB memory card (Which is the same size card I use in my 3DS) costs $60 from the gamestop website... Now, i'm sure you can probably find them cheaper somewhere. But $60 for what is essentially a micro SD? So, already I would be out $310...thats before any games as well... Not to mention, you can't play PSP games on it. And people may argue that not every console ever has been backwards compatible. Yeah, I understand. But Sony is advertising this as the only gaming device you will need...Yeah, its the only handheld gaming device you need, unless you want to play other Sony games. In Japan, Sony has a system for converting your UMD games to PSVita format (for a fee of course), but its not even offered in the US! Sony claims you can just go on the Playstation store and re-purchase your old PSP games for a small price... Some old PSP games are $30+. Wtf Sony. Its like Sony doesn't want non-sony fanboys to buy their system. Its just so freaking expensive. They did this with the PSP, they did this with the PS3. Why won't they learn... The 3DS was arguably expensive at launch, but Nintendo took care of that in a very short period of time. But Sony can't afford to drop the price of the PSVita. They're already losing money on each unit sold. I want to know from people who have bought one if its even worth considering buying one. Even when the price does drop who knows how long from now. I'm sure there are games that will come out that I will want to play on the PSVita. But from what I see so far, this is turning into the PSP all over again... Edit: This does sound like a sony-bashing post, which It kind of is...but i'm really interested in hearing from people who bought a psv to see what they think...maybe i'm just totally wrong, and the price of the system is totally justified. Edit2: One of the videos I watched that showcases a lot of stuff the PSV has is from Ashens. He isn't necessarily the bar of what is good or not, but his review shows a lot of what the PSV has, and its kinda funny. Link Here |
I've never really cared for PSP's much. Nintendo ftw :p

I like the Playstation family, I just don't like the portible ones. PS3 is the best!
|
I go for Nintendo :b

I'm glad to see they put a second analog stick on it. That was the main problem with the PSP. I'm probably not going to get one of these but I might if it has absolutely amazing games.
|
They did a review of it on a show called Goodgame, they said they liked the way it felt holding it, and the duel sticks but "dont see themselves using the backpad as its to difficukt to use" . The release games they said were O.K and all together rated the VITA 7/10 and 7.5/10 (14.5/20) so a good score. They reviewed uncharted using it which they were meh about. Loved LBP (little big planet) though.

almost all consoles/hardware are sold at a loss, they make profit in software sales and accessories.
It took Microsoft a few years at least before they started profiting from Xbox OT: I dont have a PSVita nor do I plan on getting one...money is just too tight these days (for me) to be buying a couple-few hundred portable gaming systems. If you can't possibly wait to get home and play your console or PC I guess this would be a good buy for you. Portable gaming is always a big hit over in Asia and Japan specifically..but in the U.S. smartphones are taking over and with our economy, I dont see this being a big seller.. I had two PSP's before..my first got stolen and the second one bricked. Also I heard the battery life is terrible and the battery cant even be removed to swap out so yeah, not a smart move..I might get a PSV when they sell the "slim" version and its $100 cheaper |

Smartphones are not taking over the gaming market...its that simple. If a gamer wants to play games, they will play games on a video game console. If they want to play with toys, they will use a smartphone. The 3DS is selling great now, if smartphones were the answer to portable gaming, wouldn't sales be terrible? You know, since millions of people have smartphones. |

edit: you kinda left out the part where the 3DS was barely selling in the U.S. until the slashed the price. People can either download a game that costs a dollar or two on their phone these days over spending hundreds of dollars on a device that only plays games. The market is shrinking for portable game systems while smartphones is constantly growing. Dont try to deny that fact. |
Smartphones are growing. But not because they're used for games...the games on the iPhone are terrible. Most are dollar mini-games that could never and will never stand up to a console or handheld game.
And the 3DS was doing bad at the beginning of its lifetime, but nowhere near how horrible the sales of the PSVita are at this moment. And now, the 3DS has been on the top of the charts for months. Like I said, people who have no interest in games will continue to pay a few dollars for some cheap games on the iPhone. But people who want to play games (And the gamer population is huge, and always growing) will continue to buy video games and video game consoles. And you clearly said something about the video game market, because you equated smartphone sales with the PSVita not selling. |
jeezus I said the PSVita isnt going to be a big seller, thats it.
obviously I'm talking about the portable gaming market here obviously |

I enjoyed the older PSP 1000-3000 models, but when the PSP GO came out I wasn't a fan of that at all. I haven't heard much about the PSVita. It just looks like a redone model of the the older PSP's.

haha i might get one but i never would really use it and be a waste of cash since i got a 3ds not long ago and played it for a week and after that it was like: WOW so boring :O
grew up with nentendo and pokemon xD but xbox is the best now and i play it like and would never get bored of it...... XBOX AND SKYRIM FTW |
Regardless of price drop or not, i don't consider wanting to buy the PSVita in overall.
Sure, there are good games on it like Uncharted Golden Abyss and Gravity Rush but after getting a chance to play the other games, i felt as if the Vita was treated as straight up garbage. First off, the "i liked the way it felt when holding it" is a lie in general. Its like the PSP 3000, nothing simple. Second, I don't think a second dual stick is "Awesome" or "Great" in my opinion. The 3DS has done this but as an "Add-on" for most games like Kid Icarus Uprising and Resident Evil Revelations. Also, because of the second dual stick PSVita has, the buttons shrunk down a little. It feels worse than pressing the PSP buttons in general. Also, the backpad isn't being used in PSV games much anymore. Its like the PSV shouldn't have it in the first place. But thats my opinion because i haven't seen much of the backpad in some games. Second, other than Uncharted and Gravity Rush (Which if you're going to get a PSV, i highly recommend), other titles are either ports or terrible games that tries to show off the PSV's features. Modnation racers is a port of the PS3 version. I prefer the PSP version alot more. Little Deviants is a showcase. The only one that doesn't feel like a knock off straight port is the new Mortal Kombat for PSV. From the looks of it, that game itself is gonna be a huge seller on the Vita. Third, the prices are so damn high for the god damn handheld. If you purchase it with all of the stuff, its way damn higher than the price of a playstation 3 with a game... No thank you sir.. Fourth, theres still bugs which were not fixed at all on the PSV.. Major bugs/problems.. -Some of the games/apps crash/freeze on the PSV (sometimes-rarely) -You can't play it while the system is charging I tried the system like 3-5 times at the GameStop store and i can say that its not worth that much money.. Go buy a playstation 3 or a laptop with that money instead |
