Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be available on December 7th for the Nintendo Switch.
  • All characters in Super Smash Bros. history will be available to play on this game.
  • The new characters that have been announced so far are Daisy (used to be an alternative skin for Peach) and Ridley.

I'm kinda worried about some things like the new percent scaling for 1v1 but at least the game looks different.

And Pac-man's grab is an actual grab now.

Character roster is too bloated. I understand theyre trying to make everyone happy by including all characters; but some are simply unnecessary. And then on the other side of the coin, they only added two new characters, which is underwhelming. Im honestly shocked that there arent at least 2 ARMS fighters added. They also had a pretty good sized pool of other recent games to pull characters from.

And I guess Im the only one who kinda doesnt like the fact that Ridley is playable character.

This probably isn't the final roster. They'll either anounce a couple of characters in another direct or add more at a later stage as DLC. And it's not like it took much effort to add pichu and yound link back into the game as they are essentialy just reskins with minor adjustments which is better than what could of been nothing.

The same leaks that showed Ridley as a character also showed Simon Belmont, which I'm kind of happy about. Really good ways to incorporate his stuff into a smash moveset. As has been stated, I reaallly doubt this is the final cast for the game, my personal guess is at least 5 more fighters, maybe more like they did with smash 4 DLC.

The number one issue I see right know is knockback. Seems weirdly forced to have the knockback start so fast and then hit a certain distance before dropping off hard. The different scaling between FFA and 1v1 I'm not a fan of either, and the moves seem like they have really weird trajectories that they send characters in. I'll have to look closer at future gameplay and news but not happy about this part of it so far.

The knockback deceleration is probably meant to help balance some of the overpowered characters, which is a good thing. In Smash4 there are several characters that can make a KO at 40% using a single high-knockback attack.

I've always enjoyed playing the smash brothers series. I like the idea of getting all the characters into the game. I am sure they will roll out more bundles with new characters after they get an idea of how many people buy them game.

I also like the idea of 1v1 stats being different from a free for all match, it will be easier for them to balance the characters without ruining the characters.

Thought the f***in dragon from monster hunter was a character for a sec there little dissapointed it's not but belmont looks broken.

if belmont's combos are as free as the trailer makes them look then he's broken, if you can DI out of them then he seems pretty bad. king k rool seems like a really gimmicky character, with projectiles and a counter.

I don't think his combo game will be thar crucial to playing him as long as he has a good damage output then he can just space out most characters (although it seems like he still will have a decent combo game anyway as the baloon knock-back should be advantageous with his range).

K-rool seems really underwhelming from what we seen that recovery looks atrocious but the dash attack could be usefull particularly for covering the ledge.

chrom looks really interesting to me, the “echo fighter” title leads you to believe he’s just a clone but he seems to be a mixture of at least roy and ike.

the engine/mechanics of this is basically smash 4: 2, so I don't think there are going to be many true combos, same as last time. They've already done away with chain grabs of any kind, and the knockback deceleration makes it look like they don't want combos to be a huge part of the game.

On speculation alone I'd say he prob has a 2 hit combo but the rest is probably sdi/di-able. It did look like the whip has a tipper hitbox, which is interesting. He'll be one of if not the best zoning character imo

Puff bair zoning will be as broken as melee with the new, pushing jump + a to short hop. From what I’ve seen with smash ultimate, and heard from a lot of top players, is that it seems to reward aggression over zoning.

From what we can see I think its just the up b thats ikes and for some strange reason the sound effects sound a lot closer to ikes than Roy's. As a Roy main I have mixed feelings about chrom, roy gets enough sh** for being worse than marth and lucina so if chroms better its over for the boy. I can't tell if he has hilt or not which if he does he could invalidate roy as a character.

missed this while watching the direct but pro players have pointed out that the rulesets contain an option to disable the “rage” mechanic, which is huge. for those unfamiliar, this makes every character into a lucario of sorts, where having high damage taken increases knockback on moves. this mechanic is often pointed at as being the main downfall of smash 4, so if competitive play adopts a “rage: off” meta, it would be great, but i’m assuming rage is on by default.

already looks like a way better game than smash 4 though, will definitely be going hard when it first comes out. will be maining pichu, dr mario, young link, pokemon trainer as those ones have a special place in my heart from past games.

can’t imagine what other characters they could possibly introduce, maybe whatever the monster hunter protagonist’s name is, since they showed a monster hunter boss? and speaking of the boss, it seems like the blurred out menu is some sort of subspace (adventure) mode, because why else would you make a boss? just for boss battles gamemode?

blurred out menu might be stage builder, the image on it looked kind of like a stock stage image

it’s rumored to be a mode called “spirit” where you basically fight against your ghost to become better, sort of how time trial ghosts work in mario kart

I don't think anything other than the title is leaked yet. I highly doubt a mode like that would firstly function or deserve a spot on the main menu. It's probably a new storymode where you collect the lost souls of the roster. the character trailers so far might have slightly alluded at this particularly with luigis ghost scene, also bringing back every previous character might be connected to story mode somehow.

yeah after looking that up, the argument that it’s “spirits” is really convincing. the logo for the mode is the exact same as the logo for the subspace army, but with another line coming out the top. expecting this to be another story mode where you collect the character’s “spirits” for sure, similar to in brawl where you saved characters who were immobilized in trophy form.

just makes it that much better, this isn’t just some random idea i’m making up but words from sakurai himself, though it isn’t set in stone and was just something he was considering. unlocking characters was one of the most satisfying parts of smash as a casual and they have said that they are putting an emphasis on nostalgia.

i agree, i loved unlocking characters on brawl/melee
