A personal question I have about scamming/G4G
 

As a player of classic of 2 years I have noticed and realized that December is the time of the year that the vultures of graal come out and prey upon the newbies and innocent minded. Now the question I ask and I do not mean to offended anyone since some players in classic have taken offense to this but do you consider G4G a complete scam and will reporting this help get the scammer get banned.
I ask this question because I have been approached by a few people that have said that reporting a scammer won't get them banned. However I believe that if a single player gets reported 5 or 10 times for scamming I'm sure the graal police will do something to the reported scammer. Its my personal opinion that if I see scamming that I should report it.


Please do not take a offense to this question. Its simple a question/opinon.

i think last year i saw a dude scamming many noobs with his fake gpic. he was never punished. but I am sure he got lots of reports on him.

scam is a scam. but there's a reason why graal has set up a toll for secret santa. use that daily. u should be good.

Scamming inside the confines of certain game activities is the norm. It's not good sportsmanship, so to speak, but people do it and the GP have little control over it. You can search for the Terms of Service for graal - Scamming is dealt with when it's through the official trade feature of the game (which classic server does not have). When you're talking about people who are offering to trade gifts, it becomes a question of if you know them well enough to trust them.

Personally, I never gave a gift in hopes of getting one in return. Not even to my best buddies. It's absolutely against the spirit of the holiday, so you're getting what you deserve. If you have some cash left over at the end of the event, go toss some gifts in the secret santa (by church) and you're guaranteed to get the same in return.

Secret Santa is the best way to get gifts. But sadly a lot of people don't want to pay 10 gralats and scammer take advantage of that.

True some people are greedy but some people really don't know any better. Newbies to Classic won't know much about G4G risks and sometimes just a 10 gralats is a make or break deal for them.

Simple solution : do secret Santa thing. It's your own fault if you trust someone you shouldn't. Reporting won't do anything and it shouldn't , otherwise you could just mass report people u don't like and say they scammed you

This has been asked before and basically the answer is no. G4G on its own is something staff/higher ups do not encourage and thats why the secret santa system was implemented as a work around. Doing gift4gift is something you do at your own risk and if you decide to do it, maybe you should stick to gifting your friends!

And you never know if that report was legit or a lie, all i can suggest is that they add the trade thing in easter to the g4g thing , You can choose either gift someone without an exchange or gift someone with an exchange , so if u wanna g4g u gotta trade someone for an equivalent gift u wanted , while if u wanna gift someone who is inactive or a friend.. u can send em right away with the Give a gift without a trade option.

Just do Secret Santa to avoid getting scammed

The G4G thing isn't an idea supported or suggested by staff. It's a player-run thing and you're at your own risk if you do something like that and end up at a loss.

The guild pic has been the same since 2014: 500 strong presents. For those of you G4G'ers out there, be careful of this guy. Not sure about his name but he's the only one using that guild pic.

Also yes, reporting them will get them banned, you should just join (Gift Trades INC), it's a guild that me and my friend Don do every xmas, we only recruit people that we trust a lot/kick people that scams.

Scamming is legal...It's only when they offer something i.e) have this item from era or I'll pay you after send gift etc that it becomes a scam that's banable.


Chances are that if someone is even saying Gift 4 thisGift is that they most likely won't if you have to gift something before they gift you anything they likely going to scam you, basically because the balls in their corner...


Idk what this secret santa system is? not been on classic when it's been about, but I've wondered why they haven't done something like that anyway where basically player gives present and gets a present back. Maybe also a spinoff to make different from other years why not have 'Ohh no! Santa has dropped numerous presents while trying to deliver them, go found them and dig them up for free presents!'

Really good idea , won't happen tho , people will spend hundreds of $$/££ worth on Christmas like they do every year , they ain't gonna give things out for free when they are raking in the cash

Must have been a pretty stupid and young admin lol. The thing today's admins do is take things personal, which is ridiculous.

If scamming is unavoidable at times, there is no reason for them to ban, which is also ridiculous.

They made secret santa for this scamming issue , so its ur fault if u get scammed

An "admin" scams me and invites a buddy of his to spam the guild chat to report me when I was the one who got framed. His entire claims were that he is an admin so he wouldn't scam me. He says sent me 10 gifts (in less than a minute after entering my house), but I got none. If that's not a scam. I don't know what is.

It's my personal belief that the greedy beggars who are too ignorant to do gift for gift have to settle with the consequences of being scammed themselves. They're missing out on the point of Christmas in the first place.

Looked into this, Slacky did send you 10 gifts.

To clarify what has already been said, gift for gift is at your own risk. If you are scammed, don't expect the staff to do anything about it.

Slacky is graphics staff, and I was happy to find he hadn't scammed you or anything like that.

What year did that supposedly happen? I've been staff since early 2013 and don't remember ever seeing anyone banned for scamming presents, especially if they scammed a staff member.

Find that point of xmas irl. Graal is business and Ppl like striken, bu, anyone with 500 gifts are the reason why iclassic has lasted for 7 years IMO.

Tbh i was gunna say use secret santa. But noticed some are going for 500. And bu, striken was giving away *** ton of gift.

Also I'd like to add that she never moved her gifts to see the new ones arrive, so I cant be wholly sure she got them. However I do know that I sent all 10, that we are both in gift traders and I have been told she's reliable by other members. So honestly the whole situation doesnt make sense.

I find it rather ridiculous to believe that Slacky would scam based on two pictures which pretty much just shows his bewilderment as to why you may not have received the gifts, assuming you hadn't. It's even more ridiculous to not only believe that but to also mock his capabilities as a graphics staff based on a set of uploads. Really thankful that Jarace cleared his name :)

Here I go stating the obvious. You've never confirmed anything in my side. Why don't you explain why I didn't receive 10 gift, not even 1 gift notification from him nor see any increase in my total gifts? I tracked my gift count after every trade.

Also why don't you take a look at that conversation history? I didn't just come here cause I lost 1 gift. I was upset when Seth and Slacky were spamming the guild chat straight up harrassing and threatening to kick me.

Lastly, you may remove 6300 gralats from my account.

Kind of wish those blue notification boxes weren't so generic. That would clear up any issues with false gifting reaaaal quick

I'm not here to argue, I can't explain why you didnt receive my gifts. But if you remember you told me you also sent me a gift aswell which I never recieved nor was I notified... Which is why I'm confused.

UPDATE: Megan and I have talked a bit about it, and I believe her, I don't think she got my gifts same as I didnt get hers. It appears to just be another manifestation of that weird disappearing gift glitch, sorry for the drama and derailment...

Staff sign was removed due to players spamming staff accounts that were online. Displaying the title is up to the individual staff themselves. Graphics may do it so that player will give them ideas on what to make.

I know this is resolved now, but I think this warrants a response anyway.

You both received each other's gifts. What I'm guessing happened is the server lagged or was having issues at the time and failed to deliver the messages or update the presents. I'm pretty sure the gifts were delivered by now, and you should see this when you open them.

The conversation history is not something I feel needs to be addressed publicly on a forum. Feel free to private message me here about it if you want.

I said remove 6300 gralats, because I only sent 1, meanwhile slacky sent all 10 gifts, but somebody from a staff team forcefully removed 9 presents from my account without my consent. So I take that back.

It looks to me like you sent Slacky 10 presents. Is this not what happened?

Slacky sent me 10. I sent him only 1 thinking he was a scammer. After he came forward to apologize I tried to send him the rest of gifts, but it says I maxed him out.

Weird, what I checked yesterday said you sent him ten.

If you believe a scammer then 9 times out of 10 you deserve it unless they are that believable.

They should create G4G how they do the easter egg trades. I feel like it would be much safer and easier. The secret santa toll takes too long and is an extra expense. G4G is just so easy and gets presents quickly.

But christmas is about giving.

If you want to G4G with strangers for whatever reason instead of Secret Santa, a good way to be safe is by booking people early, days before gifts come out. Because by the first day all the scammers are out and I found it quite hard to find some legitimate traders the past year.

After reading the posts here and seeing how many views and responses I have to say that I'm completely surprised how many views and reply/posts this has gotten.

After reading the comments I have to agree that yes Christmas is about giving but lets be honest this graal where people will scam you for a 60 gralat turkey. Even hosting a fashion show saying there's a prize (gift) people lose their minds.

As for saying its the person's fault for getting scammed I think isn't exactly a fair thing to say. Most of the people that get scammed are usually newbies. Just yesterday I got a pm from some girl asking "do you know where the secret Santa is". Another instance was just recently when a guy pmed me holding up a gift high up in the air for all the vultures to see asking "what do i do with this". My problem with scammers is that they usually prey upon the weak newbies that don't know any better.

As for a g4g trade system or any trade system I'm 99.9% positive that classic won't be see a trade system any time soon. Even though it would result in a booming graalian middle class.

My favorite attempt that people use to get gifts is when they PM you asking for a free gifts to help them reach their goal, saying they're only 1 away from it. Pretty obvious that they're never gonna change that number and just keep telling people they're at 99/100 or something.
